Here is the latest Turabian quick citation guide: http://www.press.uchicago.edu/books/turabian/turabian_citationguide.html The intro confirms: "These styles are essentially the same as those presented in The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, …

one can "create bibliography from selected item" and save it or copy to clipboard. can one create citation the same way (or, for that matter, any other simple way?) Make sure you have Chicago Note with Bibliography selected in Preferences > Expor…

To sync multiple separate databases with one username (the syncing doesn't have to happen all at the same time).

Therefore, audioRecording defaults to "book", podcast defaults to "article", videoRecording defaults to "book", tvBroadcast defaults to "article", manuscript defaults to "article" and presentation defaults to "article". Not quite--as you can see via…

@kientzla, I've noticed that cites come out with no period when first entered, but acquire a period when citations are refreshed. Yes, this is a known bug--see this ticket: https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/884

@kientzla: Ok--I see I was entering letters incorrectly. However, now it gives me: Harris to Goetz, May 12, 1925. I still need the archival information. You must be using "note with bibliography" style which gives you a short citation for every fo…

I agree with Bruce--marking a quote by quotation marks seems quite adequate to me. The sync version also indents the quoted paragraph which makes it even more obvious--this should be enough for students not to confuse quotes with their own notes.

What I meant is that on each note you need three "fields," although you can create as many as you want. ... So in the biggest one in the middle of the note, you write the information. In a smaller one, say to the left, you write the source. In the s…

While I'm here, I want to make one more pitch for adding containerAuthor to the schema, and including this field for book types. This is needed for a very common use case that is not covered by hierarchical relations. Organizations (NGOs especiall…

And another option is just to mildly abuse the standard title and/or cite (where you have a URI) attributes. The problem with this option that if I write 20 notes on the same book, I have to enter the author/title every time. This should not be ne…

While we are on the subject, it would be great to add a quick search box to search through collection titles, for those who have a lot of them.

dan can answer the priority question better than i can--a lot of other things need to be done as well. thank you for your patience, elena

It seems my only other option is to generate a report with my notes in order by their titles (chronological) and then search out and manually change the tags of each one in Zotero, flipping back and forth between the report and Zotero and searching …

the posts/information I read seemed to imply that Zotero could be set to automatically transform the text as records were being slurped in. This should be true for records added via translators: http://www.zotero.org/support/hidden_prefs On changi…

to add notes faster, just right-click on the (future) parent item and select "add note" from the menu.

While this might be a problem for people using foreign language titles, my inclination would have been to go with title case given that the initial majority of Zotero users are English speakers. Or perhaps not. From these forums, the user base seems…

Chicago styles do not force headline style for titles because foreign titles should not be capitalized and unfortunately there is no setup in Zotero & CSL to make capitalization dependent on the language of the title. 10.3 Capitalization of fo…

Great, thank you!

There is already a ticket for this. I added the MLA case to the ticket. Any creator type that's mapped to author automatically appears before the title, so if we unmap director programmers will be able to choose where this type goes in the citation.…

The only problem now is that the title of the citation doesn't show up in the middle pane of Zotero, obviously since I've moved the title to type. You can add the "type" field to the middle pane to see the titles for such sources (you still won't be…

This obviously needs refinement but in the meantime you can use a workaround in Chicago Styles--just use "manuscript" item type, put the document description in the "type" field, and the short version in the "short title" field. For example: Type: …

There is a way to do this although it's somewhat complicated: An issue that frequently comes up is how to find references that do not have PDFs attached. This is not possible currently. One cannot search for items not having a certain type of attach…

Unfortunately in English dates can be formatted in different ways for different styles: 18 Nov. 2002; 18 November 2002; or November 18, 2002. As a result, many styles define precisely where the day and month are displayed and whether the month is ab…

A corporate/institutional author field would simply be an extension of the current creator support, not a separate field like Institution (which could probably be removed). Dan--please leave the current "institution" field for citations such as the …

are you saying that 'conference paper' is reserved for papers that have actually appeared in proceedings, and 'presentation' for (1) presentations outside of conferences and (2) papers on conferences that didn't appear in proceedings? Yes, exactly.

Conference paper is mapped to "paper-conference" and presentation to "speech"--see cite.js (excerpt below). Your example above should be formatted as a presentation--see Chicago styles for examples of formatting that works. Zotero.CSL.Item._option…

The translators are in a different location in sync preview, outside of the db--in the "translators" folder within the "zotero" folder. At the moment, you can edit them by opening the files in a text editor. There is an open ticket to adapt Scaffold…
