@dunning Ok, then I will wait for CMOS reply and use my rigged style in the meantime.
-
@dunning I revised your style to create my own that cites magazine articles with full dates. I guess no one else cares about this so no need to investigate further. Thank you.
-
@dunning Thank you for writing to the CMOS team. I believe the 18th edition is quite clear on this matter, but thank you for double-checking. If you decide not to make this change, please post your decision on the forum. In that case, I will make my…

@dunning - I looked at CMOS 18 closely and here are the requirements: 14.64 "Indispensable for newspapers and most magazines is the specific date (month, day, and year)." 14.65 "A magazine is a weekly or monthly (or sometimes daily) periodical [..…

It would be better to leave it up to the user to choose "magazine" or "journal" to format the citation, rather than make the formatting dependent on the data. Here are some arguments: 1. Citations for major magazines imported from online databases …

When a magazine article item has a volume and number entered in Zotero, the new Chicago 18 CSL styles cite it as a journal article--a year instead of a full date in parentheses, and volume and number included. This is incorrect according to the late…

Here is a video of the troubleshooting mode. The cursor is actually flashing faster in reality, so I can't see either the arrow or the vertical line. I think the animated gif converter deleted frames so it is more difficult to see the fast flashing,…

Yes, it's the same flashing cursor.

Thank you!
-
Amazing! Thank you very much.

Here is what happens when you don't have a "year" column in search results. Here I am searching for several versions of a governance document that was revised over the years. https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u40/6skm3ba3mfzw21gfmnq…

Thanks!

Here is a gif showing what happens: https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u40/7vtrh3r29dlhb178bpvx.gif

Ok, I sent the file, thank you.

I am surprised that Zotero developers dismiss experienced users' need to find and display information in a piece of software dedicated to storage and retrieval of data, especially information that was previously easily available. Users could find an…

@dstillman as of February 22, 2024 "All Fields & Tags" search did not include filename: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/456281/#Comment_456281 When was this feature added and was it announced on the forum? I must have missed that an…
-
If you can find filename with "All Fields and Tags" in the quick search window, filenames should be findable via "All Fields" option in the Advanced Search. That would only be consistent. It is not logical to be able to find filename in one place an…

Aha! That was the problem--Z switched back to "Author, Title.." and I didn't notice. With "All Fields and Tags" it actually searches for the filename as well as folder name, so my immediate problem is solved. Thank you so much!

Nope, this kind of search doesn't seem to work in large databases. This attachment is in the main Zotero library: https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u40/d942uktd4g30xd3kz9fo.png But it does not appear in search results: https://s3.ama…

@adamsmith Thanks, unfortunately this works in small collections, but it doesn't work in my entire library, where I would need to search for the missing file: https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u40/a9z9vranppzy7ntzjucv.png My library …
-
@adamsmith Thanks--how do I search in Zotero for the alphanumeric string of the storage subfolder?
-
More arguments for this feature: @dstillman, you are wrong here: filename duplicates the metadata that's already shown in the parent row If there are several attachments to an item, only the first one will be renamed according to the metadata. All o…

Thanks! I'll see what happens with the next update.

I can't understand what these preferences do :( Here are all app.update settings that are in bold--anything looks weird to you? Thank you for helping! https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u40/k91vy63hkod7oxasit8b.jpg

I've restarted several times for sure. Could this be new permissions restrictions of Sequoia 15.0? I've got several weird messages since I installed it.

@dstillman "true"

Well, Zotero is supposed to check periodically for updates but it haven't been at all since I installed 7.0. And when I opened About Zotero, it did not tell me whether I have the latest version, so I assumed mine was the latest. Maybe this is a bug?
-
Ah ok. I thought I had automatic updates, but I guess not--will have to check my settings. Thank you.

Thank you for adding this--sorry, I didn't see this thread before posting mine.
