It worked--thanks! I had to install JDK in addition to JRE but that's a known issue for LibreOffice. Also, Oracle recommends to uninstall other versions of Java, so I did that too.

The easiest way to do this manually is to create collections or saved searches (with tags) for each section of the bibliography, then generate bibliographies from collections and paste them together in the end of the document.

If these changes happen, it would be nice to keep a preference option for the current way the tab works.

@adamsmith fbennett fixed it (thanks!). I will look over the Chicago styles this weekend to see what else is not working, if anything. The SBL style is based on Chicago and will need to be changed also.
