Good point. To be honest, many library catalogs also contain pretty mediocre book metadata. I always save by ISBN and make any necessary corrections.

You'll find that this happens a lot. It's not Zotero's fault -- the webpage you're looking at doesn't expose the right kind of information for the Zotero connector to interpret it as a book. A few options: - save it as-is using the Zotero connecto…

This is the most current thread I can find on this issue, apologies if there are more current discussions elsewhere. There doesn't seem to have been any movement on this, as it's still a problem on my local search. Are there any updates?
-
Perhaps I shouldn't have made explicit suggestions for future updates. Those appear to be distracting. I don't want to assume that it should become a native web app. I understand the loss of functionality such a move would bring. Clearly, using a l…

Thanks, @dstillman. I appreciate your time. I think you're missing some of my point, though, because I've framed it poorly (yeah, "long-term viability" is probably a bit hyperbolic). Rather than focusing on the skills and knowledge deficits of novi…

It might be helpful to have a few options for display density, rather than making individual tweaks to spacing between items. E.g., in Gmail there's an option for "Default / Comfortable / Compact." Right now there is a text size option and the stac…

Before this becomes too much of a discussion of values and moral judgment, the purpose of citation, etc., I want to bring things back to my main idea. As @DWL-SDCA puts it: To summarize-- some people who need Zotero the most, have real problems with…

Thanks for replying. You don't really say why you don't think Zbib is an option for [novice] users. That's specifically why Zotero created it. Yes, you're right. Zbib does tick most of my boxes, but it lacks the robustness of the full app: source s…

Not fully knowledgeable on this, but sometimes ISBNs aren't registered or indexed appropriately. I think add by ISBN fails about 10% of the time for me. Happens sometimes with DOIs, too. The embedded PDF metadata and the Google Books metadata are b…

Hey, @dstillman, these changes look great. Thanks for the attention there. I'm going to start a separate thread on some concerns I have and opportunities I see re: the future of Zotero and zbib, as someone who has been using and teaching Zotero to …

Off topic: how do you make a post quote on this forum? I can't do what you did :( HTML works here: Quoted text
-
Not sure if this is the best way to do it, but you can use "omit author" to suppress the information in the author field in the parenthetical citation, then add the author's name as you want it to appear as a prefix, followed by a comma. Screenshot…

It's a small thing but is anyone able to help with this?
-
@adamsmith haha, minor detail.
-
TOC is visible (for those PDFs that have a readable TOC) in the outline view, in the same place as the annotations pane. Screenshot
-
There is a notes editor in the top right -- the notebook icon will allow you to see all of your notes, and you can add an item note from that view.
-
It should work the exact same way on a single PDF. You do have to hit "Manual entry."
-
Do note however that Google Docs editing Zotero citations like this is actually bad as Zotero no longer recognizes the part of the citation that turns blue, so you want to undo those changes whenever they occur on Google Docs' part. Oh, for sure, I'…

It will create a "Document" item type with the filename as the Title.
-
In those cases, it would probably work to drag the problem PDFs into your Zotero library, select all, and right click "Create Parent Item," then have ZotFile rename and relocate the PDFs.
-
@adomasven yes, just reproduced according to the exact steps above and submitted a debug log: D657503795 Using CMOS17, full note. One important new observation: it seems to only happen after inserting a footnote that ends in a URL. Hitting [space]…

To include multiple sources using the red search bar, simply search for and select each source in turn before hitting enter to insert the citation. IMO, the Classic Add Citation Dialog makes multiple sources and a few other things, like page numbe…

You need to provide more information. Some citation styles arrange sources in the bibliography by order of appearance, others (probably most) order sources alphabetically. Which style are you using?

Came to this thread searching for others who've experienced similar issues. I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Example portion from someone else's bib; I make no claims to accuracy on any of this: Antler, Joyce. Jewish Radical Feminism: Voices …

Thanks for that tip. I'll definitely check it out for my own use. Any thoughts on similar features being rolled into Zotero more officially? I support a *bunch* of novice users. Generally, I've found, add-ons aren't particularly helpful for them, a…

@dstillman sorry, I had COMPLETELY missed the actual annotations panel. I was looking only at the notes panel and was very confused. Now that I see it, and now that I've played around with it a little more, I see how highlighting is supposed to work…

Thanks!

1) Since Zotero cannot replace all functions of an external reader such as OCR And speaking of Hypothes.is, another amazing open source project, perhaps there's a way to integrate their recent docdrop OCR tool: https://docdrop.org/ocr/

This is so great. Thanks, everyone. I've become quite accustomed to annotating PDFs with Hypothes.is, and one thing I really like with that is that I'm given options about what to do when I select text. Sometimes it's a text annotation, sometimes i…
