amacom73, you should only need to update PythonExt if you're having issues with the plug-ins. Otherwise, there's no benefit in doing so.

This problem is fixed in 2.0b7, although for whatever reason there seems to be no indicator that the window is resizable. If you're running 2.0b7, you should be able to drag the lower right corner to resize the window.

It's not the JRE directory. It's the URE (UNO Runtime Environment) directory, A.K.A. the directory containing ridl.jar. The troubleshooting page has details on how to find it.
