Check the author field in the right column. Make sure it it set for "two fields," not single. This puts last name first. To change, click the little white space that is between the name and the - + signs. If this fixes your problem, you will nee…

NO WAY!!!! 2220 visits to this forum and I just NOW find this out??? Sheesh. OK. I still want dragging of inline citations, but I'm happier now...especially when the dev build hits prime time! Thanks Dan!!!
-
hmmm. Really? Isn't the drag of the item itself going to give me a full bibliographic type entry? I want just the inline citation. Or am I missing some cool feature already implemented! :)
-
Great! (if I understand you). Does it automatically insert a citation when it copies as per my related request? Since for whatever reason that note (be it a quotation, comment or whatever) is making into my document, I need to cite it. OK, maybe n…

What version of Word are you using?

I think something like that might be coming. In the meantime here's what I do: 1. make citation of whole book 2. right click the book in the middle column and duplicate entry 3. then cut the "title" and paste it in "book title" (but i don't ha…

Brent, You can rename the file in Zotero. Click on the file name in the upper portion of the right column. Then, clicking on "Show File" opens up the folder that contains the file (in file explorer). From there you can right click and send as…

I'm glad it worked. :)

Applications data is a hidden file, so it might be, um...hidden. Go to tools in the Explorer you use for navigating the files and folders on your hard drive (not to be confused with IE (ewww, why would you want that? We are FireFoxFreaks here...bu…

Sorry. As far as I know, it can't be done at this time. Check out this thread http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/987/

OK, let's start with something so obvious that it might insult your intelligence (which I really am not trying to do). How do you know it doesn't work? Do you see "Zotero" (or maybe just a "Z") at the right-hand side of the status bar at the botto…

I'd like a per doc pref as well. :)

Great! Thanks.

When you click the green icon with the + in it, "Book Section" isn't right underneath "Book"? Or: on the Info tab, click on the space where it says "Book" and a whole bunch of item options shows up.

sarahr, welcome to the forums! First off, I don't use Chicago, so I can't respond to the multiple texts/same authors issue. But, if you are referring to book chapters by different authors, have you tried using the "book section" item type? There …

EWAdams, Welcome to the forums! Dragging the URL to the middle column creates a snapshot, the same as clicking the camera icon. I didn't see dragging the URL to the middle column addressed in the video, but I certainly could have missed it. What t…

Did you add any new FireFox extensions? Some extensions can cause conflicts. Try disabling all of them and see if that solves the problem. If it does, start adding them back in till you find the culprit.
-
Instead of hitting the link button, hit the create new item from current page. That will give the link, and also the parent item that you can add notes to. See my comments here

Welcome to Zotero and the forums! The first thing that comes to mind is that not every item has corresponding tabs in the right pane. Links, snapshots and notes do not, even if they are stand alone (unattached to a bibliographic item). Only paren…

Do you consistently use Zotero in just one window, or do you use more than window for Zotero use? Do you have the same problem if you open just ONE Firefox window and then do everything in tabs? I'm just wondering if there is somesort of inter-w…

You're welcome. Besides, if everybody thought of everything, it wouldn't be any fun hanging out in the forums!

Have you tried "duplicating" the main book entry, then changing the duplicate to Book Section, then manually move the title to the appropriate spot. For additional chapters, I just duplicate the chapter entry then edit the chapter title and author. …

Try Book Section. List Gopnik as Author and Bowerman and Levinson as Editors.
-
Maybe I'm not understanding what you and needing, but I think clicking the "create new item from current" icon should give you what you want. That creates a web page item.
-
You can select all the items in the middle pane, and the number of items will appear in the right-hand pane. If the middle pane is collapsed you will get the number of references in the library. If it is expanded you will get the number of individu…

Until "remember last item cited" is implemented, you could put the current reference you are working with in a collection. The plugin does remember the last collection cited from. If you only had one reference at a time in that collection I think yo…

In the address bar (where you normally type web addresses) simple enter "about:config" without the quotation marks.

Is there a bibliographic style that you are using that requires this? If so, what is it? As far as I know, most styles want the bibliography to be in alphabetical order. Is your request being required by a professor? One way around this would be t…

From what I understand, many of these issues are related to issues that can only be addressed when FF3 comes out. Check out this thread: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/2218/ Note especially the use of double quotes (") before a search. That…

When you are on the webpage you are going to cite, click the "Create new item from current page" icon. Next you need to have the Word Plugin Installed. Then just click the insert citation icon (in Word), select the citation format you want, then…
