Ah, the actual figure is: 49381, the number I was giving before was just the number of PDFs
-
I experience this both in ff and in standalone. It's somewhat faster when it's not the first time (5-8 seconds).
-
Currently it takes up to 10 seconds for the complete list of my references to display when I click "My Library"--is this normal for an 8000 record database?
-
@fbennet: I agree wholeheartedly with keeping citation and 'other' metadata very separate--and while we're on the subject of ephemera, citation fields could do with a date parameter which states when the citation information was retrieved--plugins w…
-
I must correct one major piece of misinformation I stated in the thread above--the Zotero Scholar Citations plugin is *not* broken in the most recent Zotero Add-On, it's just not working in *standalone* yet. Please try it, oh ye weary reader of th…

I second this request--is it still not possible?
-
I get redirected to the settings page at times as well, but I assumed this was by design--it only happens when I'm booted off for scraping too many pdfs, clean my cookies, and start over again--the opening of the settings page reminds me to apply li…

Oops, yes, fbennet got it right :-)
-
On a slightly different note, beware that Mendeley, while it does properly render top-level folders, it does not respect the hierarchy more than one level deep, despite claiming to 'synchronize' with the Zotero database--beware! (It does appear to …

@adamsmith "Since you need to ensure compatibility etc., software is highly path dependent. Bad decisions early in the process can have disastrous consequences. So yes, for software, often nothing at all is a better solution than something half…

@DWL-SCDA: I should also mention that HistCite exports .html files that I have planned to put online at some point, I wonder if I will get some letters from ISI by doing this as well! :-)
-
@DWL-SCDA: Oh, I don't propose anything like the automatic update you describe--just whatever data happened to be there at the time the user downloaded an article--the idea is that this is helpful to a single researcher or small group of researcher…
-
Oh, and @DWL-SCDA: in response to: "Aside from GS, I know of no non-copyrighted source of citation chains." CiteSeerX allows downloading their entire citation database. Microsfot Academic Search provides a lot of citation information…
-
@DWL-SDCA very interesting about the legal letters! I find this kind of strange because they let you download this information for up to 500 records at a time from WoS, and Scopus allows something like 1000 or 2000 records worth of citation informa…

I have, beginning with a discussion with somewhat different motivations, ended up making a case for custom fields in this thread as well: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/14485/database-custom-fields-or-advanced-tag-function-sort-and-search-…

I am talking about different fields for different stats: for isntance, one to store the number of times a reference is listed as 'cited' on google scholar, if the reference was grabbed from there. (this is what the old citation plugins did before it…
-
It seems like 3.5 then, should allow the end-user to add custom fields, letting plugin authors do the same--I've seen this proposed elsewhere on the forum :-) In addition to the items mentioned above there are lots of things I might want to input w…
-
I should clarify that, while I have never contributed code to an open source project, I have some limited 'professional' experience as a developer and while everyone hopes developers can implement the features they desire, I am also interested in ge…

adamsmith: if the citations plug-in works *at all* for anyone on current version of zotero then it's news to me, it seems to be completely broken. While I can believe that few people request citation features, it seems to me like one of those feat…

Will downloads be interrupted if I import a second page of pdfs from google scholar before the first set of downloads is complete? More generally, is there anything I have to avoid doing, other than closing zotero, to make sure all the downloads th…
-
Yes, it's not that a larger number is needed, is that people naturally just hold the '9' key down until the field stops them in some cases, and in this case it looks like doing this would produce unexpected behavior :-)
-
oh! perfect :-) And should I have one or both of them sync with the server, or does it matter?
-
right, but is there some subtle way I can tell if downloads are complete? and how can they be resumed?
-
I second this request--many people complain that PDFs lack the immediacy of paper documents, and this is partially because of the lack of a visual impression of the overall size of a document.
-
Hmm, well I am still apparently getting fewer PDFs overall from large queries than I was in the past--when I was using standalone, I would find it got slow sometimes and I would restart it--now I realize that the little arrows are appearing graduall…

In my experience, clearing your cookies removes the warning (you get a captcha instead of a warning)
-
Ah! That one works, although, my entire goal here is to grab pdfs via google scholar, and i was previously able to grab that one *via* google scholar, so I'm still not sure what's going on..

Oh, and I am testing with this article: http://scholar.google.ca/scholar?q=%22generating+music+through+genetic+algorithms%22&hl=en&btnG=Search&as_sdt=1%2C5&as_sdtp=on

Strange, I get: The add-on "ZoteroQuickLook" could not be installed. It may be incompatible with this version of Zotero Standalone. Standalone 3.0.3 zoteroquicklook-1.3.0-fx.xpi
