I can see where you may have been confused (since the paragraph mentions Firefox and not Zotero Standalone in the beginning). I adjusted the instructions accordingly.

Top of the page Firefox and Zotero Standalone If you're experiencing a problem, before restarting Firefox, check the Actions menu (gear icon) in the Zotero toolbar for the status of the “Report Errors…” menu option. If a potential Zotero error has…

Debug ID (what you provide above and I'm sure is very useful) is not the same as a Report ID (see Dan's link). The reason he's asking for a Report ID is, I suspect, to check what add-ons/plugins you may have installed (possibly unknowingly). This in…

I put in the title, get a beach ball that probably runs for 30 seconds, then enter the next line of data, beach ball again, and so on.Could you produce a debug ID for this instead?
-
Based on the way Zotero is coded, it looks for these files in the data directory, which is separate for each user. You could symlink them to each user's directory though, that should work.

Force Quit showed the Zotero was not responding. Went through the appropriate steps and got the debug ID--below--and then the system came back to life.So did you close Zotero? If so, the Debug ID is not going to be useful. If not, then I'm not sure …

This is almost certainly not going to happen (it could technically happen as a Zotero add-on). It is way out of the scope of what Zotero is designed for and it would probably only be useful to a handful of individuals using Zotero. Also, please don…

See step 10 here: https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues If that doesn't work, go through the other steps from the beginning.

I mean, I don't understand what you were trying to say. What does "the one I found externally" mean? What does "the one shown by 'preferences'" mean? (I'm pretty sure I know what you mean, but I need you to state this more clearly so there are no mi…

Win7 does not have the same directory address structure as did XP. correct There must be 2 zotero directories. I updated the one I found externally (Firefox and Zotero closed), but the one shown by "preferences" does not have it. Sorry, I don't foll…

4233 total items is a reasonable size database. It should not be causing these issues. Can you provide a Debug ID for an action that causes Zotero to freeze up? https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output Edit: regarding the crashes, do you mean th…

anything that is less than 100MB is not what you are looking for. Find your original backup and find a zotero.sqlite file (or zotero.sqlite.bak or zotero.sqlite.1.bak or something similar) that is close to that size).

then created a new collection to be the targetIf you're doing this correctly, the import itself will create a new collection. If you're able to import directly into a collection you created, you're doing something wrong. did import after doing the r…

Do this one more time. Open the data directory. Close Zotero/Firefox. Copy your old zotero.sqlite (and do make sure that it's named exactly this way) to this directory. Verify that the file size of zotero.sqlite is large (probably ~100MB). Start Fir…

Go to Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders -> Show Data Directory. Close Zotero/Firefox. Delete the pdftotext and pdfinfo files. Reinstall them via Preferences -> Search If that doesn't help, submit a Debug ID for an attempt to …

Also, could you email one of the failing pdfs to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
-
When you select a pdf, on the right it will say "indexed: no"
-
Have you been able to retrieve metadata for any of the PDFs? I.e. the 131 that are indexed? If you open a PDF that is failing in whatever PDF viewer you are using, can you copy text from it?
-
See launchNonNativeFiles preference here https://www.zotero.org/support/preferences/hidden_preferences
-
What happens when you try to retrieve metadata?
-
Can you submit a Debug ID for attempting to save that article? https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_connectors_chrome_and_safari

Mendeley file imports via BibTeX should be working now without having to edit the BibTeX file.
-
This should be fixed now and imports should work out-of-the-box without any edits. Update translators via Preferences -> General -> Update Now

I picked Use Profile Directory on Standalone, it required a restart, and after that when I went back to preferences it was pointing to random string that starts with 4 also. And also my library had reappeared.Ah, OK. It seems the way we show this si…

Also, are you able to open any PDFs from the web within Firefox? E.g. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf

I changed Zotero standalone back to Profile directory, restarted and I have a library! HOORAY!No no, you don't want that (hence me specifically asking what "Show Data Directory" opens up). You want both Firefox and Standalone pointing to the same di…

Once I tried to use a custom location, show directory no longer showed the default directory even when that choice was selectedThat would have been a good time to post on the forums. Interestingly we have seen a similar report recently, though it w…

Storage as "Read Only". I suspect that they mean I can't meddle with the folder itself, particularly the name, and that the database contains references to those names. That depends on where you're reading this "Read Only" attribute. Right-click ->…

Could you confirm that Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders -> Show Data Directory for both Zotero Standalone _and_ Zotero in Firefox open the same directory? If so, try re-installing Zotero Standalone.
