I believe this is currently to be expected while using proxies and connectors with standalone. I don't think this will be improved in the immediate future. Using Zotero with Firefox is currently the best choice for proxies.

Regarding the empty/invalid BibTeX entries. My speculation is that you are trying to export standalone attachments and/or notes rather than items (i.e. Journal Articles, Book Sections, Books, etc.). At least that is the exact output you would get. …
