Open some document in the Google Docs with the Zotero Connector installed and press F12 (or Fn-F12). Developer tools should appear. Switch to the console tab. Are there any errors? Can you copy them and paste somewhere (like pastebin.com) and link t…

Can you create a new user profile in Chrome and see if it's also broken there? Does it work in your existing profile if you go into Connector Preferences -> Advanced and check (or uncheck) the "Enable Google Docs Integration v2 (NEW)" checkbox (y…

What URL are you trying to save? Does it fail for all websites? Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for a save that fails?
-
Can you disable all other extensions in the browser except for Zotero Connector, restart the browser and try again? Does the issue persist? If so, can you submit a Report ID from the Zotero Connector?
-
Restart Zotero and Word. Go into Zotero Help -> Debug Output Logging -> View Output, then press Refresh in the Word document in Zotero tab. You should see Zotero log its actions into the output window. As long as the output window is being upd…

What happens if you cite this item in a new word document with Science style?
-
That's the correct appearance of citations with for the style. The citations appear as superscripted numbers. You should find out which citation style you're supposed to use for the document you're writing and change it appropriately if it's not cor…

What is this version of Word? How did you install it? Have you tried reinstalling Word by redownloading it from the official Microsoft website?
-
Restart Word and Zotero and try again.
-
Sorry, we do not display a progress bar on macOS due to technical reasons. You can open the Debug Output viewer from Help -> Debug Output Logging -> View Output to see whether Zotero is processing your document.

As dstillman said, you will need to follow the steps in Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents.

Does it happen if you create a new sample document with a few Zotero citations, then export it and try to open in Google Docs?
-
What citation style are you using (check in Zotero tab -> Document Preferences)?
-
See Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents.

Could you disable all extensions and close Zotero, then go into the Zotero profile directory and rename the treePrefs.json file to treePrefs.json.bak, then restart Zotero. Can you reproduce this bug without any extensions enabled after this?
-
Does the issue occur if you disable all add-ons in Zotero?
-
If you disable all plugins in Zotero, then click through any columns that have the arrow once (as if you wanted to sort the items by that column) and then restart Zotero, do you still see this? Now if you re-enable all extensions, click through all …

If you opened the correct document in Google Docs, the first line should read "ZOTERO_TRANSFER_DOCUMENT" before you hit "Refresh" in the Zotero menu. If it does not, you either didn't convert it properly in Word, or loaded the wrong file in Google D…

Can you export those items as Zotero RDF, upload them somewhere and post a link here (or send it to support@zotero.org)?
-
Could you submit a Report ID from Zotero?
-
@superoldgranny I unfortunately cannot reproduce the bug with Monterey and Word 16.63. Does it matter which footnote you try to edit or is it broken regardless of the footnote?
-
Ok, so you have to keep halving the document until you isolate only a small part of it that is broken and send that to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread and we will look at it. Edit: Sorry, we got your document. We'll take a look

Remove and re-insert the cited item that is causing you issue in the document text and then reinsert it.
-
Have your partner go through see Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents.
-
It would be best if the person experiencing the issue posted directly. This is likely caused by Zotero citations being stored as Bookmarks. Unless your partner needs to work with Word users, he should store them as Reference Marks. This setting is f…

Hard to say what's happening from the Debug IDs, but I'd assume some other browser extension is interfering with the Zotero plugin. I see from the Debug ID that you submitted from Zotero after restart, that an initial citation insert worked, and the…

What's the full version of Word? Have you tried updating it? Otherwise see Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents

See Zotero Toolbar does not appear

Are you using the Chrome plugin in Edge? The Connector is available native for Edge, so you should definitely use that. Otherwise, can you submit two Debug IDs from Zotero client (not the connectors), one when saving the page with Edge, and another …

Have you tried restarting your computer? If you have, it's likely an issue with the Monterey Beta. You generally shouldn't be running a Beta version of OS if you have time-critical work to do, or should have a plan to revert to a stable version of O…
