If you open the developer tools in the Google Docs document (by pressing F12, or Ctrl-Shift-i) and switch to the console tab, do you see any errors/output? Can you copy it all, paste it somewhere (like pastebin.com) and post the link here?

Restart your browser. When you interact with Zotero in the document and get the prompt to authenticate, make sure you select the account that has access to the file you're trying to edit.

What browser and what version is this? When you paste text with citations in a new document do you wait until the document is fully loaded? After paste do you see a Zotero overlay asking to wait while Zotero updates the document?
