The Zotero citation window may appear behind the browser window. Make sure you look through all Zotero windows. You may need to restart your browser and Zotero before you try again.

Does it work in a new macOS account?
-
Would you try this Zotero.dotm file and check which line you get the Run-time error on?
-
Can you reproduce this multiple times/consistently? It seems like in this instance you eventually got a citation dialog. Could you finish inserting a citation? Could you produce a Debug ID where you attempt this multiple times? You might need to wai…

What word processor are you using? Are you storing citations as Bookmarks (check in Zotero Document Preferences). If so, you should switch to Fields/ReferenceMarks.
-
Did this used to work for you before? Do you have any proprietary security software running? Could you try disabling it temporarily?
-
What is the current actual path to Word on your machine? Have you moved it from the default /Applications/Microsoft Word.app?
-
When pasting the contents of one document to another you should make sure you have Zotero Connector installed and enabled and that both the document you are copying from and pasting to are fully loaded. Upon pasting the contents you should see a Zot…

Do you also get the error if you open the posted version of the Zotero.dotm directly with Word (you may get prompted to enable Macros, and there may be two Zotero tabs, you should try both)?
-
It seems that you have renamed Word, or moved your Word installation. You should return Word to its original name and location: /Applications/Microsoft Word.app
-
This is unrelated to you moving items in your library. Something happened to your document. See Existing Citations Not Detected.

Open Terminal.app and execute the below command: tccutil reset AppleEvents org.zotero.zotero Then restart Zotero and Word and try again. If it still doesn't work, create a new temporary macOS account and see if it works there.
-
You should begin by updating macOS to 13.5.2
-
Update to the latest version of Word. If that doesn't help, you will have to follow the Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents steps.
-
Does it happen in a new document? Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for an attempt that fails?
-
Word for Mac is rather slow, especially with footnote citations. Unfortunately we cannot improve its performance. We recommend to split the document into chapters and work on them separately, then recombine at the end of writing, or at least do this…

You should name your document without using any space symbols, or save it on your hard drive, not in OneDrive.
-
Do you have any security software running on your system, have you tried disabling it? Do you have any other plugins installed into Word? Have you tried disabling those? Does this happen in a new document?
-
To give an update here, I looked into this and generally the System dialog: 'Zotero "Add/Edit Citation" is ready' prompt is a Gnome "feature". The version of Firefox that Zotero 6 is based on was opening windows the "wrong" way which is why the pro…

This will be fixed in the next release.

Whether new windows appear in the foreground or background is controlled by the OS. Zotero has limited control over this and does its best to put windows in the foreground.
-
Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for a non-first edit of a document with Zotero? Unfortunately the API Zotero uses to interface with Word is very slow due to a variety of technical and historical reasons. We're working with Microsoft to pro…

What's the full version number of Word that you are running (e.g. 16.77.1)?
-
Does this happen with a new sample document you create in word and attempt to move to Google Docs? If not, you will have to follow the Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents instructions, specifically the last step, but you will have to …

You seem to have moved Word.app into a subfolder under Applications. You should move it back into Applications. Zotero won't work if you move Word out of its usual location.

See Reporting Problems. Provide more details.

As explained above, the first addition after restarting Zotero will take a while, but subsequent ones should be much faster. Unfortunately the performance of Word for Mac integration with Zotero is not as fast as we would like, but there is little w…

Have you tried restarting your computer? Do you have any other processes running in the background that could be using a lot of resources? Are other applications fast?

Thanks for keeping on prodding this. It will be fixed in the next beta release.
