No, you should not enable Zotero or Word to run as administrator (that checkbox should remain unchecked). You should set your UAC level higher and restart your computer. You should not get a prompt saying "Do you want this application to make change…
-
You should move your UAC settings one step up and restart your computer, then see if it works.

Submit a Report ID after reproducing the error. What is the full version number of Word that you are using? Open a Word document, choose File from the top left corner, and then click either Account or Help on the left nav bar. You’ll see your Office…

Windows has Administrator and Standard account types. It is perfectly normal to use an Administrator account on your personal computer. However disabling UAC completely is dangerous and not advised even if you are an advanced user. Could you explai…

Restart Zotero in Troubleshooting Mode (Help -> Restart in Troubleshooting Mode). Disable any other plugins you have installed in Word and restart it. Produce a Debug ID where you reproduce this in a new document.

We cannot provide troubleshooting for Flatpak Zotero installs. You should install it using the tarball, and if you still have issues, try the Troubleshooting Mode (Help -> Restart in Troubleshooting Mode).

How would you recommend I report it to Microsoft? Just report that inserting a Zotero citation there causes Word to crash. Recent Word changelog actually contained multiple lines regarding fixing issues with equations, so it's not unlikely it will …

Can you increase UAC to level 3 (default) restart your machine, then see if it works. If it does not, could you attempt to run Notepad as Administrator and confirm that you get an UAC prompt? https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u27359…

We've been able to reproduce this and will have a fix available in the next version of the Zotero Connector.
-
@gfliu Make sure you restart your computer after setting EnableLUA to 1 as per instructions in the other thread. Otherwise setting UAC to any level above the lowest one and restarting may also help.

Does Firefox maximize correctly for you when changing screen orientation?

See Reporting Problems.

Please submit another Report ID after you receive the error in Zotero.

Does it work in a new document?

We need a Debug ID. Follow the instructions linked. Did it ever work for you on this computer with Zotero 6 or 7? Does it work if you save your document locally (not on OneDrive)?
-
Did this used to work before for you with Zotero 7 Beta? Could you provide a Debug ID for an attempt to cite?
-
Restart your computer. If the issue still occurs, make sure you first receive the error dialog before submitting the Report ID.
-
The solution is to not manually edit Zotero citations. If the citation is wrong, you should either modify the item metadata in Zotero to fix it, or if it's a citation style issue, choose a different citation style or modify your current citation sty…

@mausiii13 Could you disable all other extensions except for Zotero Connector, restart your browser and check if this still happens (or install Zotero Connector into a new Firefox profile if that is easier)?
-
We don't want any private document information. If you manage to find steps to reproduce this issue consistently, do post here. It seems like it's related to the track changes feature in Word, which would cause issues, but which Zotero disables in W…

Could you be more specific and explain step by step what your problem was and what you did? Do you know what lead to this error? We occasionally get users with errors like this and would like to fix it.
-
If this is an institutional machine then likely some administrative setting is preventing this. You should contact your IT.

We're working on a fix for this. We'll let you know when it is available.

Could you close Zotero, then open the Terminal app and run it using this command: AEDebugSends=1 AEDebugReceives=1 /Applications/Zotero.app/Contents/MacOS/zotero Then attempt to insert a citation into a new document until you receive the error. Cl…

Yes, please create one with the beta.

Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero Beta for an attempt to insert a citation that fails?

@pbcornelius Thanks for the reproduction case. It's a Word bug. I've reported it to them via their Feedback UI (in Word Help -> Feedback). You may want to do it too, which might help attracting more attention.
