I'm afraid this is just a broken field code error, so you'll have to manually debug until you get rid of the problems. See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#debugging_broken_documents

1. Navigate to chrome://extensions/?id=aepnpdamngmeljnfcidijebbnaibcaip 2. Tick "Developer mode" in the top right 3. Click inspect views: background page for Zotero extension 4. A window with Developer tools will pop up. Click on the console tab.

Could you submit a Report ID?
-
It shouldn't be necessary, but just to make sure, you should replace the files upon updates. Do report if you don't experience crashing after spending some time working with the plugin and we'll try a version closer to the one we currently have, to …

Still not getting us further. Please check the background page log.
-
Right, something is definitely amiss, but not clear what. Could you follow Dan's instructions above and check the background page log too?
-
Ok, so this is not a fix, but we can try and see if the integration still works with the old files, which might help us at pin-pointing what's causing this. Follow these instructions carefully: 1. Open zotero installation folder (default C:\Program…

Going into Zotero Connector Preferences and pressing F12 on your keyboard will open Developer Tools. The Console tab might contain errors that could hint to us about what's going on. If the log is very long you can paste it on gist.github.com and po…

The Debug ID says that you are on a Mac and does not include the button press. You need to enable debug logging, press the install button and submit the log. Do you run Windows or macOS? Which one is Zotero not working on properly?
-
Could you also submit a Debug ID for clicking the Reinstall button for Word plugin in Zotero Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processor Plugins?
-
If you click Word Add-ins is Zotero.dotm listed? If not, try adding it using that dialogue.
-
Right. Could you: 1. Go into Word Preferences -> Ribbon & Toolbar 2. Enable the Developer Tab and click Save 3. In the newly appeared Developer tab click Macros 4. Confirm whether the list of macros contains Zotero entries and whether Zotero…

What version of Word are you running? I know I said Windows might update automatically, but just to be sure, does Office have any updates from Microsoft that you can install? Otherwise, could you produce two separate Debug IDs for such a crash? If …

Does it say Zotero Connector Server is Available when you go to the URL in firefox? Does it work on a different browser? I believe OpenSUSE comes with a firewall pre-installed. It would be weird if they blocked connections on the loopback address, b…

This just says that Zotero has lost the connection to Word. Do note, that Windows updates Word automatically, so the upgrade to Zotero might be coincidental. Otherwise, since you think this is a resource problem, if you run Task Manager when attempt…

I'm not entirely sure what you are describing. I assume Zotero Preferences -> Cite say that the addon is installed. Do you see the Zotero tab in Word or not at all? If you do, does clicking buttons produce an error?
-
But to answer this succinctly, Zotero should handle this properly, or alternatively processor functions should return Promises, but I don't think that's a possible short-term solution, even if it would make sense in the long-term.

@bwiernik this does not apply to Mac word. You cannot set keyboard shortcuts in Customize Ribbon, and Zotero commands are not available under All Commands. @SBarren please see my instructions linked above.
-
Follow custom Mac Word 2016 keyboard shortcut instructions. To locate Zotero actions select "Macros" under Categories and search for "Zotero"

Right, this is a matter of T&F translator idiosyncrasies and Connector code. Chrome behaves slightly differently, which is why it works. We'll look for a solution, but it will not be immediate. For the moment saving articles one by one will work…
-
Please describe in detail what you expect and what's instead happening, and what you have attempted. Generally installation of word processor plugins should work by going into Zotero Preferences -> Cite and clicking on the relevant Install button.
-
Something is up with T&F and Firefox, I'm looking into it. In the meantime, if you can test, does the same occur with Chrome?
-
@saninjapan Could you please start a new thread, describe your problem in full and submit a Report ID?
-
Could you also submit a Debug ID for an operation that causes issues?

Is there another solution? One that does not involve breaking the work into smaller chapters, as I feel this would not be really productive in my case? Changing to an author-date format (like APA) might help as those are slightly less stressful on t…
-
@adamsmith Looks like the Word integration plugin isn't even installed (which, with Zotero standalone shouldn't happen), so installing the plugin manually in Word won't do much. @N.Seide Could you download and reinstall Zotero 5.0 again, just to ma…

Could you send those two paragraphs in to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread. Otherwise, does reinserting the citations in those paragraphs and then combining chapters fix the issue?
-
Not at the moment.
