Does it work if you change your system language to English?
-
@janeinjune Can you reliably reproduce this by switching the system language to Chinese and back to English? Do you have to restart any programs or the computer after the change?
-
What version of Word 2013 are you running? Have you tried updating? I cannot reproduce this with Word 2013 15.0.5293 in an empty document.
-
@leejwy Does integration work fine in a new document with Chrome?
-
@paulbosma Yes, thanks! The document that you have shared with us was what helped to find this bug.

Does it work with a different citing style? Do you have any security software installed? Did you try updating Office?
-
Do you have Track Changes enabled? Does it work with a different citing style that does not use footnotes?

Try creating a new user account on this computer and see whether it works there. If not I recommend removing any security software (BitDefender or other), restarting your computer and trying again. Often even when you disable security software it ma…

@PLAYOFFS_MOON Sorry about not responding, I don't have anything new for you, not for the lack of trying. Also unfortunately a much bigger issue with the new M1 Macs has surfaced which currently requires all our attention. For now I suggest updating…

Unfortunately I don't have much else to say to you except that Word is refusing to run AppleScript on your machine which is likely due to some misconfiguration of Word or macOS. In the past the only way users have reported to have resolved this issu…

See this thread https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/86443/ms-word-plugin-again You will need to debug why osascript/AppleScript is not working.

This is the first error of this type. We have developers with the new M1 MacBook that can debug the error, but we'll post here if we need more info or help troubleshooting. This might also get resolved by Apple or Microsoft too.
-
Yeah, the M1 chip might very well be causing issues. Out of curiosity, for how long have you been using Zotero (and Word integration) with the M1 MacBook?
-
If you go to /private/var/folders/w3/[someRandomText]/T/com.microsoft.Word/ on your mac do you see a file that looks like "zotero.XXXXXX.rtf", where X - any symbol. You will need to use Cmd-Shift-G in Finder to go to that folder. Do you see such a f…

Could you take a screenshot of the "red" popup and upload it somewhere? Is macOS up to date? Have you tried updating? This isn't a regular error we've seen before (it's an OS operation timeout while attempting to set the field code for a citation), …
-
And you don't get a popup in Word about an error that has occured? The Zotero progress bar freezes? Does Word work fine in that state? How do you get things to unfreeze from that state? Is closing Zotero the only option?

Could you submit a Report ID after reproducing the problem from?
-
Sorry, this is a recent issue and one that is nebulous to debug because we cannot reproduce it locally, we can only debug it via someone else's system, like yours. Thanks for working with us so far! Could you download this script and run it with a f…
-
Thanks for the detailed testing. I am 100% certain this is a Word for Mac bug, but there's no need for debug logs from Windows, they cannot be used to troubleshoot the Mac plugin. The Test 15 is actually showing a different kind of error that I migh…

Could you download this RTF test file and this AppleScript file and place them both in your user's Downloads folder (i.e. /Users/[username]/Downloads)? Then close all Word windows and open one with a new document. Open the test_word.scpt file by dou…

Could you install the Zotero Beta, produce the error and generate another Report ID (the Beta version includes better error logging that might help us identify the issue)?

Could you install the Zotero Beta, produce the error and generate another Report ID (the Beta version includes better error logging that might help us identify the issue)? Sorry, you don't have to do this. Posted on the wrong thread. Still looking …

Do you have any security software running on the computer? Have you tried disabling it?

Open the Terminal and run /Applications/Zotero.app/Contents/MacOS/zotero -ZoteroDebugText You will see Zotero start with debug logging in the console. Perform the operation that makes Zotero crash, go into the Terminal, copy final few screens of l…

Did it used to work on this computer before? Did you try restarting the computer? Can you create a new macOS user account and see whether it works there?

See provide steps to reproduce and explain in full what you do from opening a new document in Word.

What are the steps to reproduce this error in a new document with the citation you have sent?
-
Could you right-click the item that you were trying to cite here in Zotero, select Export Item, export it as Zotero RDF, upload the rdf somewhere (like Dropbox) and share a link here? What citation style are you using?
