Ok, that just revealed another error message. Something may be broken in this document so you should try Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents
-
Could you submit a Report ID? What version of Windows and Word are you using (full version numbers)? Does it work well in a new document?
-
Could you post an URL where saving does not work correctly?
-
Ok, so just to make sure we are on the same page, Word and Google Docs integrations and their corresponding errors are 99% of the time unrelated. So whether something works or doesn't on Word has no effect on Google Docs and vice-versa. I asked to …
-
Make sure the document name does not have any space symbols, just letters and numbers.
-
You will have to troubleshoot this yourself. The icons there are controlled by your Linux distribution. Zotero updating should have no effect on them.
-
Do you mean in your browser? The Zotero client whether beta or not is unrelated, you have to install the Zotero Connector for that.
-
First of all, the Google Docs and Word integrations are very different and what you're seeing is specifically a Google Docs bug. Note that Zotero citations in Google Docs and Word are not compatible with one another and if you move your document fr…
-
Last time I checked LibreOffice did not provide the necessary programming APIs to implement Zotero citations with just fields. Plus LibreOffice fields are not text-editable which is a requirement for Zotero citations. We would definitely like to imp…
-
What's the version of Chrome that you are using there? Does it work with default chrome? How about in a different browser like Edge or Firefox? Have you tried disabling other extensions in Chrome and seeing whether that helps?
-
@natesinger @k8mitchell Could you produce a video that shows this bug occurring, upload it somewhere and post a link here?
-
Restart your computer.
-
@GinaRojas this issue is fixed in the Zotero Beta.
-
Sorry for taking a while to respond. I'm afraid I don't have much to say here. You are the only person reporting this issue and there are thousands of daily Zotero users with Word so this would be reported more widely if it was a bug on our part or …
-
Restart your browser and when prompted to select a Google account for Zotero integration select the one that has editing permissions for the document.
-
In light of your other post, the error you reported here occurs in the phase where Zotero tries to get the Word document to interact with. I wonder if this is somehow related to multiple documents being open. Have you ever encountered this with only…
-
@mlannigan So unfortunately I'm now even more confused as to what the problem you're having is and how it manifests. 1. What do you mean by "perpetual freeze"? What steps do you take and what happens? 2. The video you sent us certainly shows stran…
-
You can also try testing with other Chrome extensions disabled and if that doesn't change anything then test in a different browser.
-
What do you mean by "perpetual freeze"? Could you make a screen recording of a failing insertion, upload it somewhere and post a link here (or if you want to keep it confidential email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread)?
-
If it's an Office/Word thing it will likely get addressed eventually. We occasionally see weird Windows Word errors like this that seem to appear and go away on their own.
-
I'm sorry to say that this does not offer any more insight. It's a very generic error from Word and there may be ways for us to trace it further, but first you should update Windows, Word, restart your computer, temporarily disable any proprietary s…

I have explained to you in great detail twice what field codes are above as well as what Zotero's unlink citations does and does not do. If you still don't even know what that means or does that is entirely up to you. You can claim that the Zotero…
-
Also, looking at your post history here it seems that in 2015 you had an issue where none of your Word footnotes appeared, even manually inserted ones. You had determined that it was a bug in Word or your document back then. Perhaps this is what you…
-
Zotero never had a function that allowed you to remove all footnotes. You are misremembering. Zotero uses a Word feature called fields, which allows to store additional information "underneath" text. Zotero uses this information to format and refor…
-
I think there's a misunderstanding here. "Unlinking citations" does not mean that the citation text is removed from your document, only that the underlying field codes that associate them with Zotero are. After unlinking you are only left with stati…
-
Could you submit a Report ID? Does citing work in a new document? If you enable field shading in Word do things look orderly (e.g. are only Zotero citations shaded grey)?
-
The last paragraph of the debugging page (which dstillman referred to) mentions how to generate a Report ID, this is why I linked to that as opposed to a debug ID Sorry, I misremembered it linking to the Debug ID page. Zotero shows a generic error …
-
We need a Debug ID, not a Report ID. We don't really see anything like the bug you're experiencing so it's hard to say what's causing it from the Report ID. It would be best if you figured out the steps to reproduce the error consistently. This coul…

Did you try manually installing the extension? What happened? See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#installation_error for Java selection in LibreOffice. If a JRE is selected but you cannot install the Zotero exte…
-
See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation#libreoffice If Java does not work with LibreOffice correctly doing this will display an error from LibreOffice. Buttons being unresponsive is also a sign of Java being con…
