Indeed, where are the computer science grads and undergrads looking for topics? Zotero needs a Summer of Code! So many useful plugins could be written!
-
Although have learnt to trust that Zotero does it alright, the interface always keeps confusing me. After years of using Zotero I still have no idea what the grey text to the right of the saved field is supposed to be doing or saying.
-
Thanks! I wish I'd asked sooner!
-
Thanks. I wish there was a reliable index of repositories and their relative size; that might help any developer to gauge the relative urgency or interest. But you're right of course that this is simply too much work for the few people that can deve…
-
I knew that, and have done it from the beginning. Maybe I have not appreciated that enough because I regard it basic functionality — any file manager and most email applications does/do this out of the box so users are bound to expect Zotero works t…

Well, any news? I gather from folks I helped migrate to Zotero that this is the single most annoying "feature" of Zotero. The so-called quick search is virtually useless for any library with full-text indexing enabled.
-
Also, "I lost a library in Zotero" — this doesn't usually happen just like that. I assume you've seen the page Zotero data, which has details on where your library files are stored?
-
I would be interested too. Since the original posting on the Zotero blog it has been rather silent on this front.
-
Just copy the field in Word and edit it to change the page number. Quicker than anything.
-
I'm not arguing against your point. I happen to know that it is like you say. And some users following this thread might now know it too. But I'm just saying that having a Feature Request category seems like asking for problems if in actual fact the…
-
If you have a forum with a category "feature requests", you're not going to be able to keep users from requesting features and indicating what they would need most.
-
That is correct.
-
it might make sense for the graphic on the start page to have an arrow pointing to the Zotero icon in the status bar rather than to the address bar icon. I think that would indeed make sense Dan, given the kind of problem exemplified here and elsew…
-
I think everyone's workflow differs, but it may be most useful to think of Zotero as primarily a reference manager, not a file manager.
-
I use the 'related' feature... 1. to connect book chapters to their parent volume 2. to connect book reviews to the reviewed book 3. to connect different incarnations of a work (e.g. an article that later became a book chapter, or the 1st, 2nd and 3…

+1, obviously — it's been one and a half year since this first was proposed, I had been hoping it would be there now.
-
To substantiate that somewhat grudgy remark, here are some reported issues that are more than a year old for which we have seen no movement whatsoever: * interface of online libraries can be improved on many counts (see also sortable tables request…
-
Can I bump this for comments? Is this an issue on Mac? Am I really to make the whole right pane wider because many author's names are longer than the input fields? Or is this something that could be improved in the Z interface?
-
Yeah, I think this holds particularly for the web functionality. For example, ever since group libraries (and online libraries in general) were introduced there have been threads pointing out various problems with the displays and all sorts of missi…

Gee, http://csleditor.quist.de looks very good now. I haven't checked the CSL it produces in detail but the interface is just fabulous — about the best way to implement something as complex as this.
-
Since Dan said "OK, I think we'll be able to do this for 1.1 in a couple months' time" in 2007, it seems like they didn't get to it for specific reasons. Possibly the developers are of the opinion that the fact that you can give Zotero a window of…

Whatever the cost, the issue remains that additional funding would need to be sought. It would be great if some institution would come forward and fund it, either with money or with developer power.
-
@legalresearch: if you can find something of use in the Silk Icons set (which is what Z uses) you could suggest it here. Those icons fit visually with what's already there.
-
I believe the person now has to go to the group page, where they will find a link to "accept ownership" or something along these lines. No notification is sent out. That procedure is waiting to be improved.
-
Dang, I would consider switching to the trunk for that if it would be already implemented there. This is really one of the things that bugs me several times a day.
-
Hm. So just to check my understanding of the issue, am I correct in surmising that to make it working in Z2.0 now, I have to do something quirky, and if CSL1.0 is there (which isn't very long anymore is it?), I need to change this style to keep it w…
-
@Rintze, thanks, I'll see if that works as a workaround. But that can't be the desired behaviour, right? Does it work like that in CSL1.0 / Zotero 2.1 too? Line-spacing is one of the more frequent CSL issues to come up here so it would seem importan…

Do keep a backup copy just in case. No need to worry, the update process usually is a breeze.
-
But why not simply have both options (Retrieve PDF metadata + Create parent item) in the context menu for PDFs? Now nothing happens when metadata retrieval fails, and the user is left with a PDF for which in most cases s/he does want to create a p…

+1 again, and a constructive note of criticism. I think in the future it would be better to not disable some function on the grounds of some other functionality being planned that'll take care of it when that other functionality turns out to take …
