@pikealot: Yep, Zotero has no problem with merging split-up word docs. I've done a 450-page dissertation with Zotero, first working in individual chapters and then with everything in one large document. Worked perfectly, though indeed in the final d…

I'm tempted; from the screencast it seems Frank has done an admirable job in coding a fully functional duplicates solution. But really I've been thinking of something much simpler: a simple author/title based check the moment an item is added. Seems…

Ah good, so it does exist for notes. Indeed, like that — but adding tags to the list. (I was a bit dismayed to discover all my tags in the group library.) On the finer-grained permissions, like you I'd want to avoid complexity, and syncing is a sep…

I, too, am starting to use Zotero for collaborations on a larger scale. The lack of duplicate detection is simply unexplainable to colleagues. I want to draw attention yet again to my simple and workable suggestion to provide at least a basic author…

Thank you! As a shortcut you can at least try to convince the powers that be that the option to Create parent item for selected item should not have been disabled for PDF attachments.
-
I'm sorry to note that another year has gone by without even our simple suggestion being taken into account. Please, at least enable Create parent item for selected item for PDFs just as for other standalone attachments. Just trust us when we say…

Looks good, though note that I came across this in the Word plugin and not with attachments but items. In other words, it's a general issue for both items and attachments in the client, standalone and in the word processor plugins.
-
Agreed -- quicksearching in note content would be a very useful feature.
-
Any news? Just hoping someone code-savy will see this and pick up these suggestions, making everyone happy. As adamsmith notes above, it wouldn't be too difficult if you know JS.

I'm afraid not. The thing is, the punctuation could never be automatically included in the citation field because your citations don't always come at a point where a full stop follows. So that is something you have to do yourself. Lean back, though,…

Chrome is already supported. Just connect it to Firefox as described here, using Firefox to host your Zotero database. When Zotero Standalone is released (give it a couple of months) you can do away with Firefox entirely if you're so inclined.
-
Just a bump because I'm curious whether this has been noted.
-
Ah, I see (and sorry I forgot again that you can hover over the translator icon to see what type is being used).
-
It's been silent on the Zotero Server front for over a year now. Does anyone know whatever happened to http://zitation.org/ ?
-
I second the request to improve the AR translator, though I will also write to them asking to be more consistent in exposing the metadata. Right now the metadata is pretty good but PDFs are not downloaded automatically for me (example url: http://w…

I'd be really interested in hearing from other people using Zotero for managing big writing research projects (like PhDs) how they solve these problems. Maybe people just use other tools? But then the usefulness of Zotero just goes way down. I've w…

Ah, I know that something's brewing now (at last). It's just that I sometimes have difficulty concealing my mild frustration at the semantic latitude of terms like "near future", "soon", "month", and even "year" in the postings of the developers ove…

Tip for people who use Chrome for browsing: you can have your main library in Firefox and use the Chrome connector to be able to save stuff right from Chrome into Firefox. See this kb article.

Sorting and other fancy things cannot be done in the web-based interface unfortunately, which from the start has been woefully inadequate (despite continuing rumors that improvements are coming). If you (1) have a Zotero account, (2) are a member o…

There are two different things here: extracting citation data from Word documents, and having some way for Zotero to know (and indicate) which items have been cited in which documents. Seems to me the second one would be much easier to realise than…

@101james, I totally agree that duplicate detection is the single most essential missing feature in Zotero. (And I have been advocating the inclusion of a simple duplicate check upon adding items for years.) But the way you describe your specific ca…

All this reminds me of my own #2 in the first post in this thread: Some interface to help keep track of variants of names that refer to one and the same entity, and to help clean them up. As I said then, "It seems to me that an interface like this…

Me too. Notes are a different kind of information for many people. I was also a bit dismayed to see them included in public groups. One may want to share references publicly, but reading notes, even if they are shared amongst the group members, are …

Give an example of a URL. For example, I can drag a link to a PDF file like this into my library and it will be saved. I can also drag a link to zotero.org into my library. But I cannot drag either into some group libraries. Are you trying to do th…

Totally agree with this. This is annoying, especially if you have many groups.

Please try and exercise a little more patience. Most people helping out here are volunteering their own time. You can make support questions easier to respond to by providing ample background information. For instance: * what Zotero version? * wha…

Just hanging indent is not enough, technically; the titles should also be left-aligned with each other. I.e. the title of Bakhtin (1111) below should be left aligned with the title of Bakhtin 1981. This works in the example below only because it use…

This is great. I was hoping an anthro organization would come forward. This is the way it should be done.

Aha. Might also explain why I ran into it and why my workaround worked.

Well, thanks for explaining that.
