But why would you want to identify papers by their number of pages? Or do you mean by their page numbers? (That is becoming increasinly irrelevant BTW as the publishing world moves to a DOI- rather than a page-based model for identifiers.)

(Gentle bump. I'd like to find out if the devs agree, too. A similar problem was present in the Word plugin, where it will be fixed. To my mind the behaviour should be consistent between the word plugin and the quicksearch in Zotero.)

No you're quite right. If you can set the base folder in every instance of Zotero, your wildcard covers that case too.

For reference, libraries of up to 10.000 items are not really slow in my experience.
