The way I achieve this is to always have an appropriate collection selected in Zotero when collecting items from the web - Zotero adds items to the currently selected collection. To be precise my workflow is: Find an item online Open the Zotero pan…

@ britt The title does seem to fit, but the OP's problem is actually that he is running an old version of Zotero and he gets a sync error which asks him to upgrade to the latest version, not that he has upgraded to the latest version and then gets …

I think the fact that Zotero 2.0 is beta software also needs to be considered here. When Zotero 2.0 Final is released it should have, I imagine, a significantly longer release schedule. It might be feasible to think about upgrade interval limitation…
-
I was thinking more of 1.0 compared to 2.0, but upgrading shouldn't do any harm (as with all these things, probably a good idea to backup your library beforehand). If it fixes your problem, great, if not you will have at least got a host of other …

Phrase search within PDFs appears to work fine for me in Zotero 2.0b7.2, I guess it is possible that this has changed between versions. Vinthund - which version of Zotero are you using?
-
Dan (or anyone) could you write about current possibility of zotero as a sidebar? Dan's last post on this topic was posted in 2007. AFAIK, Zotero 2.0 is feature frozen until 2.0 Final, so it won't be a possibility before then. However, 2.0 Final sho…

How can 'Click here to take snapshot' and 'Click here to create a link' be confusing? That is just not enough information to cause confusion even for people with below average IQ! If it does , how did they ever learn how to use a browser or send ema…

Have you considered using an author-date style? That would get round the problems with moving stuff around, as the bibliography would always be in alphabetical order.
-
I don't know if more automated support is possible, but you can at least auto-generate a bibliography from items in Zotero (which you could move to a new subcollection as you cite them in your post to help you keep track) using drag-and-drop or the …

Note that if you use this solution it is very important that you never have Firefox open on two of your computers at the same time. If you do it will almost certainly corrupt your database. A safer option with dropbox (assuming you are using Zotero…

It is a shame - I agree that in isolation your proposal makes perfect sense. What might work is another button in the warning popup window called something like "make a backup copy of the document and then flatten fields", then, as the user still h…

Just on a personal level I would be opposed to this. My reasons: most large, irreversible changes to a document should be done in a copy, or new version, of the document - it's just good practice. Most mechanisms for making such changes don't auto…

Wonderful, thank you very much for responding so helpfully to user feedback.

Oh, forgot to mention, you can also drag a link to a PDF onto a Zotero item to attach the PDF to that item, or drag the favicon (the little icon to the left of the address bar) into Zotero if you have the PDF open. I think that covers all the ways ;)
-
To actually get PDFs into Zotero (before retrieving the metadata as noksagt suggests) you can: for a file on your computer... Click on the new item button (green cross) and select "store copy of file". Right click on an item in Zotero and select …

Unfortunately I haven't the coding skills to tackle the problem, but I can reproduce it, and hopefully this error report should help a developer or a user who does have the necessary skills to solve it: report ID: 2082477197 Zotero 20b7.1 Firefox…

So far I've only been able to reproduce it when entering a search string that results in only one hit For posterity, the quickest workaround (one click) for this issue is to click on the "link to this record" on the right hand side of the Newton pag…

@nakhimov Importing from the Newton catalogue appears to work fine for me - could you provide some specific URLs which fail?

But what if you add another shortcut which would expand notes only? As in the expanded view the beginning of every note is shown, you already know what it's about. And if you click onto it - you immediately see the full note text in the right pane. …

Fantastic, thank you. To tell you the truth I had wondered why no one else had made that request before.
-
Oh, BTW, I agree that the attachments pane was unnecessary - in fact I never used it.

+1 for the return of a notes pane I found the notes pane quite useful for scanning through using the down arrow key on the keyboard. My notes often take the form of short sentences summarising what the source tells me (i.e. what I can cite it in su…

Further to my previous post here is how to use the command line argument trick to make a "standalone" version of Zotero. On Windows Go to the source. Keith, who authored the page I just linked, came up with the idea of a URL to open full screen Zo…

it seemed to me that Zotero wouldn't work because it's not a web-app but a plug-in. That exactly right, but there is still another way (well actually, three ways) to achieve this. First way: (You need to have firefox as your default web browser f…

Edit: Sorry, Dan beat me to it. At the very least, I'd like to see an generic "Add note" button added as has been suggested by others In 2.0b7 there is a "new note" button to the right of the magic wand button, in the main cluster of buttons. This a…

Seems to be 100 MB at the moment - have a look in your "settings" on the web site It's a good thing that webDAV is still being supported at the moment in that case - I don't have a very large library (600 items), and already my storage folder is abo…

Documentation on the new server file sync should be published later today or tomorrow according to Dan (one of the devs), info on any storage space limitations should be included with that.

perfect, thank you. It's upgrade time!

+ 1 for transforming author names, capitalised authors are a perennial problem with Wiley journals.
