Sorry wasn't trying to be obtuse. When I said "Zotero blows up" I meant that Zotero halts with a fatal error and says that Zotero must be restarted. Don't have a Dropbox account but I'll create one and post a link to the image. Not sure what you…

I may know how I blew this up, but I am loath to try until I know how to clear the landmine I have in the list of Advanced Searches. I link the pdf files for articles in a separate "reference" directory rather than actually importing the file into…

I tried right-clicking on the problem "Advanced Search" to bring up the dialog box where I could delete that search. That doesn't work. I'd guess that populating the list has priority over showing the dialog box. :-(
-
Didn't seem to help. I glossed over the point that the command is for rebuilding the text indexes not the internal relationships. I enabled error logging, restarted Zotero, and clicked on the problem "Saved Search". The debug report is D670361744…

Trying to "Rebuild Index..." to see if that automagically fixes the problem.

Still struggling with this. I have figured out a bit more of this.... I created an html file including markup: Gridgeman. Nov., 1960. Geometric Probability and the Number Pi Firefox will open file with HTML markup and markup has the right …

Yes, I'd like Zotero Selects to work with Zotero running in its own window. It "almost" does so there must be some setup aspect which I've missed. I can do Cntrl-Alt-C to get zotero select text such as: zotero://select/items/0_VCTTKQ7K When I cut…

So is Zotero select only supposed to work inside the Firefox window?
-
adamsmith when you create a report for that item (right-click --> generate report) - what's in the URL bar? Sorry didn't answer this part... Not quite sure what you mean. The report window that pops open doesn't have a title> If you tr…

Link with more detail about Standalone hanging on another thread. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29951/system-requirements-for-standalone-408-with-windows-xp/#Item_1

adamsmith What happens when you do this with Zotero already open? Ok, this seems to be getting weirder... In my first post, I did already have Zotero open when I pasted/executed link in Firefox. Firefox was in one window. Zotero was in a sec…

So, if I'm at a University library, then the lookup would be for that university's library? If no library is detected, then a WorldCat lookup?

This ties in with a different thread that I started: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29876/logging-in-twice/#Comment_158132 I am sure at this point that logging in twice was not the problem. As I use some other machines, I'll report my exper…

Please close this. The problem had nothing to do with logging in twice.
-
Please close this. I am certain at this point that the problem had nothing to do with Cntrl-A being used to select items.

I'd also stipulate that is is stupid to use the same name for two different saved searches. I just want the computer to help keep me from blowing my foot off... :-)
-
I have two different Saved Searches with name "Analytical Chemistry". I use "Analytical Chemistry" as a condition in another search. Which one do I get? It just doesn't seem that I should be able to have two collections or two Saved Searches with …
-
Also noted that the names of Saved Searches are updated in other Saved Searches. So I have a saved Search named "Find Dogs". I rename it to "Find Puppies". Any saved search which had used "Find Dogs" is changed to now reference "Find Puppies".

OK, I think I know what the problem is here... Javascript must be doing some sort of garbage collection. * Zotero.exe has my PC pegged at 99% utilization * memory size for Zotero.exe keeps getting bigger and bigger I think my problem is that my P…

Adam was right. Problem is old and slow computers without much memory at the college library. Zotero won't run correctly on any of the four set aside for public access.
-
Adam, Updated my translators. Sweet! A different solution than I imagined, but I'm sure it fits the overall scheme better. Thanks, Herb
-
It very well could be a slow computer problem. I was using one of the "public" computers at the library and the public computers are the dinosaurs. I used a different computer tonight. It didn't occur to me to ask to try a different computer. T…

Ok, on block quotes.... ------------ Dan, Let me think about tag thing. I understand your point. I was just annoyed that I got burned on this. I think at least the documentation should note the difference. A saved query and some fiddling aroun…

Behavior Difference 2 On Standlone when I select a collection then I only get tags within that collection. On server, when I select a collection, then I get all tags in database. Don't have option on host side to set this behavior to me prefere…

Ok, fixed standalone. Sync'ed with server. Used # Children on server to spin through whole database. No other items appear to have inordinate number of children. -------------------- I'm guessing that I crash Zotero while rebuilding indices of …

Dah.... Close this. I just realized I can skin this cat by making font smaller in browser. Harder to read, but it works....

Moved from "General to "Troubleshooting"

I said Zotero was doing noting since it wasn't banging on the disk, and I had a Zotero (Not responding) message for Zotero on the title line. ----------- I have seen the Zotero (Not responding) message when Zotero was pounding the hard drive. You…

Adam, It is working now. It must take some time for a new translator to work through all the servers too. I had updated my translators last night. Thank You! Max

adamsmith I don't understand why you need the highlight? If nothing gets highlighted, it's unfiled. I guess because I'm an idiot. :-) I was scrolling up and down the list of collections looking for the collection(s) which contained the Journal …
