Thank you very much, adamsmith. I totally see why short forms should be distinguishable, but in this case the addition of the date does not help as the volumes are all published in the same year (in contrast: the additional information of the volume…

PS: I now found out that it does generate this result in other instances too. For example: - Blunt, My Diaries, 1920, 2:69–70 But not in all cases (even when it's a volume of multiple-volume work): - i.e. Riḍā, Tārīkh, 1:868–870, 1034 …

@fbennett: yes, there might be disagreement among arabists about a) whether they want "al-" to drop in shortened citations (not as likely to be agreed on, I guess) [the same applies to author-date form, I guess] b) whether then want "al-" to be …

@fbennett: to me it seems that this model (depending on whether you enter it in the first or in the second field) allows a user-friendly flexibility. (Although it would be quite a hidden feature of flexibility, so then there might have to go effort …

@fbennett: thanks! It worked! Now, in shortened citations, it gives "al-Azmeh" as the author (though not capitalized, but that's really a minor problem) AND it's still alphabetized correctly in the bibliography. Also, my "van der"-citations are also…

@Gracile: Thanks a lot, it worked when I changed it to display-and-sort (not through sort-only however)! Now "Van der Veer" is alphabetized under "Veer, Peter van der". I am MUCH more please with how my bibliography came out now. The only problems r…

From the various threads on this topic, I get that name particles are quite a complicated matter, but I hope that there's a fix to my particular problem anyway. It is related to this question of joehill asked above (whom I totally second in his…

Could I add a question to this conversation? I also use Zotero in Word for Mac (to generate Chicago Style full foot notes), but even in case of one chapter it's really terribly slow (30+ seconds) and it often contains mistakes (blank spaces within c…

Thanks (once again)! It must be that my office library doesn't sync correctly then. I'll look into that as soon as I return to my office next week. And, just to be sure, I'll make a back-up of my full library before I'll start the syncing proce…

I manually updated it and I renewed the incorrectly displayed notes and now they're fine. I'll be sure to always manually check updates first... Thanks very much for your help!

Thanks for your quick reply! I'll check why it doesn't automatically update (I use the Firefox add-on), even though I checked that box. It might be because I work from a university computer and I don't have full control over what I can download…

Update: I've taken a closer look at when Zotero does and when it does not shorten titles and it also doesn't always follow the logic I've explained above (and I do hope my explanation made sense to others). It seems a bit random to me. Any help?

Thank you! I mistakenly thought I had the most recent version of Zotero.

PS2: I do not know whether this is helpful as a substitute for a report ID, but these are the error messages shown in grey: [JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "Cannot modify properties of a WrappedNative" nsresult: "0x80570034 (NS_ERROR_XP…

PS: I tried deleting the cache-files, as is recommended on the support page. I also checked if I am using the latest version of Firefox. I apologize for not being able to do more.

The error report won't submit (perhaps because the errors showing are all in grey instead of black?), so I cannot provide a report ID unfortunately. I use Zotero version 4.0.5 and Firefox version 25.0.1. I am currently using Windows XP, but the…
