Off topic I seem to be complaining about WorldCat lately but here is another, not original with me: Many times the WorldCat note that a book contains an index is incorrect. It does not contain an index but only a table of contents.

@adamsmith I was referring to the subscription version of WorldCat. They wouldn't accept the metadata from my university unless the journals were subscribed-to and fully included in the library catalog (that is how the OCLC tallies the number and lo…

Please provide examples of the failed DOIs. Some "DOIs" are not reachable through the registries Zotero can access. Some publishers include imaginary DOIs to make their articles seem more legitimate. A 2 minute wait seems really long. I wand about 1…

Allow me to recommend your method to detect and correct muddy abstracts from publisher metadata. In short, @MavropaliasG presents a video demonstrating flaws in the title and abstract text imported from certain publishers. (By and large, these are…

The WorldCat database is populated with records supplied by thousands of libraries. Some of these libraries provide incomplete or inaccurate information. By and large, the OCLC staff do little to curate the database. Many (probably most) items have …

See: https://www.zotero.org/support/styles Click through to the Style Repository. There enter "Vancouver" without the quotes in the search field. You will see several options for Vancouver with brackets. You probably want the simple "Vancouver (bra…

I happened to be helping someone today using a Chicago footnote style. I took the opportunity to test downloading a book and a book chapter from the Springer website. When cited, those new items were formatted correctly as books in the footnotes and…

Thanks, Sebastian: PMID import through the Magic Wand is working again. It wasn't working earlier. (I tried over about 90 minutes.) Every year the last week of September and the first couple of weeks of October are when NLM does work on their syst…

When a year or location in parens follows a journal title it is there because more than one journal has that name. As @adamsmith says, the parenthetical suffix is _necessary_ to accurately point the citation to a single specific journal. There are t…

Blame some of the hate of ShortDOI on indexers like me. We use the DOI as a test to help avoid duplicate database entries. Having multiple DOIs that point to the same item is painful to my OCD personality. When Blackwell was purchased by Wiley, new …

@adamsmith @tew.w I find that the same translator behavior sometimes occurs with the SAGE journal translator at times the site is very slow to fully load individual article pages. The page seems to fully load (at last) and the Zotero icon will chang…

With Project Muse if you click on the icon _immediately_ after it becomes the article image this can sometimes occur. If you wait a second or two the import will function properly as expected. edit I guess that there is something with the Muse site…

@bwiernik The last time I worked with folks in Brazil who used ABNT style they needed to have the entire first word of the title formatted in all-upper case. (The first two words if the first word was an article.) This format was used for items wit…

I have had success getting complete imports if I copy 3 PMIDs at a time to the Magic Wand tool. The small delay from my copy/paste process is sufficient even though I can do the cycle very quickly. I've imported 250+ items this way. Note that trying…

Brill, another publisher with escaped html entities in header metadata: 10.1163/15685306-12341596

I suspect that you are misreading the T&F guidelines. I refer you to the several examples near the end of your example guidelines. What is actually printed or appearing in the pdf version will be different than what is in the author manuscript g…

Thanks for the quick reply Yeah, I was thinking that the escaped html entities would be a problem. Another issue is several highwire-translator journals are providing "graphical astracts" before text and that also leads to a similar trouble: 10.1…

FWIW Nature, in particular, and some other journals/publishers can take 2 weeks (or more) to submit article metadata to CrossRef after they have supplied article metadata to databases or placed articles on their websites. [Every day I identify newly…

14 million citations amounts to about one-half of the total number of records in the PubMed database. The computing (and sophisticated software) resources to support that number are extraordinary.

Thanks. I wonder how many is "too many". It will not be too much effort for me to limit my Magic Wand queries to, say, 20 at a time and allow a pause between request series. Are these requests of NLM arising from my local Zotero client (my IP) or i…

The pmid list included 37 items but Zotero imported 36. After I ran the import with debug active and received the reported result, I ran the import again as a test without debug and imported only 35 items. FWIW the second run omitted PMID 32906614. …

A couple of days ago, for awhile, Wiley pages didn't completely load until almost a full minute had elapsed. @jandavid should try again. I have not noticed a slow-down lately.

Thanks @adamsmith I'll try to be more clear in my explanation. edit: One more thing. I am not syncing these records (syncing is off). This afternoon I had a list of 94 PMIDs each on a new line in my text editor (BBEdit). I pasted these into the …

For each record by an author, the author's name should (must) be entered exactly the same.

Am I wrong that the formatting of numbers in the bibliography section is regulated by the word processor style not the Zotero style selected? I was wrong.

FWIW I know of several undergraduate faculty at my university in California and at universities in other states who want these items in cites to Wikipedia including San Francisco. [The first time I heard of this requirement it hadn't occurred to me …

While an ontology and a thesaurus are cousins I can help you with setting up an thesaurus and database that is fed by Zotero. Depending upon how sophisticated your information systems staff are this may be essentially free of any external cost or, i…

Do you have the contributors selected as editors? I can reproduce your problem if I have them as authors. You can change the contributor role to editor by using the drop-down at the right left of each contributor field.

Are you seeing the abbreviation "ed." for editor and mistaking that for 'edition'? Please provide an exact example of the citation that you believe is in error and also an example of what you believe the citation should look like.
