The Zotero criteria for duplicate detection is quite sensitive. Thus, a merge-all-duplicates command would likely result in merging non-duplicates. There may be differences in metadata values across true duplicates that aren't used to detect duplic…

1. If there are two or more authors with the same family name APA style "wants" the authors disambiguated by adding the authors' first names. The year of publication isn't relevant here. 2. Be sure that all records by the same author have the autho…

Very nice. thanks

What became of the discussion (several years ago) concerning a "standards" type?

I've tried numerous times over the years to help students capture metadata from ProQuest databases using both Zotero and EndNote. The metadata provided (in several of the export options) by the commercial database is between sometimes and often garb…

This isn't a new universal problem. I have been using the "magic wand" for DOIs throughout the evening. Please give examples of DOIs that fail. Also, what operating system and version, what browser and version, what Zotero version.

For the past two days I have been worrying about a series of searches for a systematic review that resulted in 500,000 items. My curiosity is literally keeping me awake. Clearly, several things have contributed to the large number of items you need…

You can convert title-case to sentence-case by right-clicking the unselected title field (or journal-title field). You will need to edit to fix the lowered case proper nouns.

My use case: I use Zotero for two distinct tasks: 1) as a tool for capturing, references for my academic work, managing those records, and citing the records in written work. 2) as a MODS generator for metadata obtained from publisher websites. …

Please back-up and further explain your issue. It may help if you do a screen capture that shows the problem, post that to a public place (like DropBox), and reply with a link to the image. Use other words to describe "the main list of bibliograph…

Syncing to an account with an unlimited plan probably isn't relevant. You say that you successfully exported records from RefWorks but tell us the export format you used for the export. You must import those records to the personal-computer-based Z…

if you have imported many records you might try this: Clicking on the Zotero control that adjusts (toggles) the author field single-field / lastname firstname (2 fields) may force the single field name from RR into a more editable format. You may ha…

That is what I was afraid you would say. There is always the social science researcher who long ago changed his name to "Perri 6" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perri_6 ) and my database contains several institutional authors with the number 6 in…

Please rephrase your question. The answer might be simple and straightforward or it might be very complex. Your question could be answered many ways that depend on 1) your level of sophistication with computers and programming; 2) whether you are i…

@dstillman @wkdurham While that is certainly true about stacked view, it "feels" to me easier and more efficient to edit in stacked view. I substantially edit 250+ imported records every day and find with stacked view that I can more readily and qui…

Try the stacked view. I use it as my default Zotero view because I must do a lot of editing within fields of the things I import. I find editing easier in stacked view and especially because I can toggle abstract view from full to short.

To display code you must enclose it within open and close html tags text text text It will then display as: text text text

You can have multiple items in Extra. Each should be on a new line.

There are several ways to produce a drop-cap to decorate text on a webpage or a pdf document. Some of the ways make it essentially impossible to select the text in one single pass. Some of these facilitate selecting and copying. @martynas_b Sometime…

What URL?

I use a tag labeled "own" for books in my library. You can assign a color to the tag.

Yes, I know. My comments referred to several problems. I will provide links the next time i find a page without a translator where, when I copy the text of the normal-looking DOI (without visible html string), the full URL with html (and sometimes e…

I apologize some of the problems I mentioned may have been resolved with new improved translators. Some of this may be a holdover from the days when translators were not as good as many are today. That said, I encountered the "folder problem" not fi…

For me, this problem appears when the "save to Zotero button" for an _article_ is a folder and not a journal article icon. Sometimes the journal article itself is not among the choices although the article DOI is displayed on the screen. When carefu…

Also, did you hand enter the page range or did you import the metadata into Zotero. If you imported the metadata, please provide the source and the URL.

The problem I've encountered is that when this type of item is first added to the PubMed database they are sometimes labeled as PT - Journal Article. I do a daily PubMed search and my query string begins with (("2020/08/23 00:00:01"[CRDT] : "2020/0…

For US federal and state legislation there are several (quite costly) subscription databases --Bloomberg Law, Lexis-Nexis, WestLaw. I do not know the quality of the Zotero translators for these services nor am I familiar with the styles that are ava…

I'll send an example the next time I find one. I agree that "video recording" is the right type. @chronicidal can you provide the link to the example you found?

Please know that for the past year or so PubMed includes videos that are released as journal "articles". If you follow the DOI to the publishers' sites you will see a static graphic that is a link to the video. Often, perhaps usually, there is no ab…
