Informaworld translator issue

Hello I would like to report a problema I am having in the following URL:
http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all?content=10.1080/10635150252899806

The translator detected is Informaworld, the icon on the address bar appears, but after pressing it only a grey box at the lower right-hand corner appears and the reference is not imported into Zotero.

Thank you
  • I also have had this problem when trying to import from Informaworld. Using 1.5b1.
  • Others have suggested that the EndNote download may be used as a work-around but there are several problems in the conversion of the InformaWorld's EndNote version to Zotero: 1) there are extra spaces before and after the hyphen in the page numbers; 2) the DOI number isn't imported (but is in the record as part of the URL); and the ISSN isn't imported from the %@ EndNote tag into Zotero.
  • Perhaps a different issue, but still Informaworld-- when I try to download the citation for http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a790191184~db=all, Firefox crashes every time. I am able to download the citation in EndNote format and import it that way.

I am using Firefox 3.5b4 and Zotero 1.5b2, and I have updated to the most recent translators.

Same problem. When I go to the article http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all?content=10.1080/01431160600658123 (through my institution's proxy), Zotero detects that it should use the Informaworld translator, but when I click the icon to import the citation, nothing happens. The grey box shows up in the bottom right corner with nothing in it. Debug output shows "Translation successful".

    Firefox 3.5b4
    Zotero 2.0b5

[edit] Should add that this problem seems to be limited to Mac OS. Had no problems on XP with Firefox 3.0.10 and Zotero 2.0b5.
  • Another small issue with the Informaworld translator (XP, Firefox 3.0.10, Zotero 2.0b5)... Snapshots are created regardless of preferences, and sometimes two snapshots are created instead of importing the pdf and creating a snapshot. I am on a university computer, so I know I have access to the pdf directly. Just odd that it happens for some articles but not others.

    These links are examples:

    http://www.informaworld.com/10.1080/01431169408954293
    http://www.informaworld.com/10.1080/01431169008955129
  • I just had the same problem as bdesc100. At the URL http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all?content=10.1080/03075070701685130 I get a journal icon, an empty translator box after clicking, and Zotero half hangs (the cursor gets the hourglass) until I click on a new webpage.
    Zotero 1.0.9
    Firefox 3.0.10
and unlike bdesc100 I am using Windows
  • I'm having a similar problem with Informaworld, using:
    Firefox 3.5.2 (Linux)
    Zotero 2.0b6.5

Two problems, really: if gives a "translator error" when I try to download multiple articles at once, using the folder icon; and it messes up the title when I import articles individually, from the Abstract page. Specifically, it has the titles all in caps, with dashes between many words.
  • could you link to an sample article and search result? Ideally both with the permanent URL and - if you are using one - the one containing the proxy?

There is a chance that the title can't be fixed bc the information informaworld provides is bad, but lets see.
  • Thanks for the reply! Here's the URL of the table of contents listing of the latest issue of the journal in question:
    http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/title~db=all~content=g913109959
This is what gives me a Could Not Save Item error when I click on the Folder button, when I'm trying to save multiple articles at once.
And this is the URL of a single article, which saves correctly but puts titles (but not authors!) in ALLCAPS and adds dashes:
    http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all~content=a908384747

As for proxy - right now I'm at my university office, so our subscription is directly recognized (I guess) ...
  • (if you can't get at it from where you are, I just created a user account (user: zotero_test ; pw: test_zotero ) and you can go to a Free Sample Issue here:
    http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/title~content=g908384773~db=all
  • ALSO! I was just reminded of the fact that at least some Cambridge Journals, like American Pol. Sci. Review, do a similar thing: authors' names (but not titles!) are in ALLCAPS. Annoying!
    eg: http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayIssue?jid=PSR&volumeId=103&issueId=03&iid=6101576
Now that I look, this is clearly an issue with the journal itself ... but is there a way to have Zotero auto-check to see if a field is all-caps, and if it is, correct?

yep, the batch import is broke, the crucial line in the error seems to be:
[JavaScript Error: "translator called select items with no items" {file: "file:///home/sebastian/.mozilla/firefox/wkxw8okh.default/zotero/translators/Informaworld.js" line: 0}]

    Edit: Report ID: 462583397
Yes, the other issue is due to the journal (note the title is in all caps on the page) - not sure if Zotero can correct that automatically, but you can right-click on the title and select Transform Text -> Titlecase so there is a one-click solution.
  • A minor issue I experienced while importing this article from informaworld:
    http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all~content=a914057903

In the pages field only the first page not the whole page-range is imported. I hope that can be fixed easily

And would it be possible to import the abstract on the webpage into the abstract field of the database? I don't know if everybody would like this, so maybe there is a way to select wheter abstract informations on webpages will be included or not in preferences?

    Thanks for the translator!

  • An updated Informaworld translator is now available. Your copy of Zotero should auto-update within 24 hours, or you can update manually by clicking Update Now in the General pane of the Zotero prefs.

If you're still having problems with the new translator, let us know.
  • Dear Dan,

thanks for the translator update. I will try it as fast as I can. Due to the "security" policy at my new workplace we are all forced to use MS IE at the institute and can not install firefox or use privat Notebooks with firefox. Will have to wait til weekend or until I convince the it-staff to allow firefox...

  • Hi, I'm still having problems after updating. zotero is still not recognizing the informaworld translator.
  • Example URLs?
  • taylor and francis website, using the database studies on women and gender abstracts.
  • Example URLs, please.
  • I'm also having problems with the latest update for Informaworld and Taylor & Francis (Review of International Political Economy): http://www.informaworld.com.proxygw.wrlc.org/smpp/content~content=a904754916~db=all~jumptype=rss. The workaround for Endnote works.
  • I'm having informaworld translator issues, tried updating translators manually, and followed the directions via the troubleshooting translators issues support page.

    Here are some sample urls:

    http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a713845779&db=all

    http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a779627630&db=all

    Thanks.
  • See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12514/ and follow the instructions for installing my patched translator. I'll get that pushed to all users sometime soon.
  • InformaWorld downloads remain a big frustration to me. Much of the problem is clearly Informa-related rather than Zotero. I have had success by downloading Informa records as plain text. Then I process the downloaded file using PowerGREP to modify the tags and to convert the URL tag information into the DOI number by simply deleting the http string. You could probably do that same thing doing two or three search and replace runs with any text editor.

Well, try the updated translator in the other thread. Then, please post URLs of records that don't work-- I believe that it is possible to make almost all records work. For the sake of clarity, post problematic URLs in the other thread, to keep things together.
  • I have an informaworld translator issue: "Could Not Save Item"

    URL is: http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a903855250&db=all

  • See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12514/ and follow the instructions for installing my patched translator. I'll get that pushed to all users sometime soon.

Dan: Can you please close this thread? The more recent thread has useful discussion and a solution, while this is a recently revived previous issue.
  • Thanks ajlyon, works great.
