Can you please double check the document you shared? The wording before and after the word "Introduction" seems to be different from what you have a screenshot of.
Thank you! Important nuance - when you try to highlight the text on Android by opening a pdf from Items List you are opening it on our New Reader implementation. But when you open the same PDF by first clicking on 'i' to go to Item Details screen you are opening it via now deprecated Nutrient implementation. It's not our intention to allow users to be able to open the PDF via 2 different implementations, so it's a bug and will be fixed in a new build, so that only New Reader implementation is used via both routes. Interestingly, our Reader performs much better and has much less artifacts on the PDF you've linked during highlighting. But there are still places where it's not highlighting an entire word, but this is because I think the PDF itself is broken. I think this way, because if you were to try just selecting text on Google Chrome's default PDF reader you will see that it also not able to select all the text and excludes random parts.
You mention you have lots of PDFs that have issues like that, so can you please: 1. Open the PDF in some 3rd party PDF viewer like Adobe or Chrome's and first confirm, by selecting text, that it doesn't have artifacts. 2. Open that PDF in Zotero Android App _via the Items List page_(to use New Reader) and see if artifcats appear there during text selection and highlighting? 3. Share those PDFs with me via similar way as you did before.
Everything I mentioned earlier is only relevant for Android build 1.0.0-289 and higher, which currently only exist in Beta. So please also double check your app's version.
Chiming in to confirm that highlighting in the new implementation is broken here, too (Boox Note Max, Zotero 1.0.0-289, through the beta program).
I've tested two PDFs. The older, deprecated reader that can be accessed through the information tab works as expected. The new reader highlights very poorly in both tested PDFs: cannot reliably identify the word being selected, is extremely "jumpy" when dragging to select text. It's basically unusuable. It is so twitchy and sensitive that you have to be extremely careful when dragging, and it always takes more than one try (and usually you have to settle for selecting more or less text than you wanted.)
@dstillman The zotero app (1.0.0-289) is showing similar issues in my samsung tab. Earlier, when stylus is there palm rejection feature was working. But now the palm rejection is not working. During highlighting or annotating, the lines draw where ever our hands touch on the screen, which was not happening before. Also the undo and redo buttons is also missing from the ui.
