Have you been on the beta this whole time? When you did you notice this change?
  • Yes. I haven't used Zotero android in a few days; noticed it today. The menu that pops up is also changed

May you please let me download a PDF you are having this issue with?

Can you please double check the document you shared? The wording before and after the word "Introduction" seems to be different from what you have a screenshot of.
  • I encountered the issue with all pdfs. But I shared the example from this post.

Can you upload the actual PDF to the shared library? Because right now there is an item with a URL, which doesn't work for some reason
  • I uploaded the PDF to the shared library and messaged you a link to the file shared from my google drive.

    Thank you!
Important nuance - when you try to highlight the text on Android by opening a pdf from Items List you are opening it on our New Reader implementation.
But when you open the same PDF by first clicking on 'i' to go to Item Details screen you are opening it via now deprecated Nutrient implementation.
It's not our intention to allow users to be able to open the PDF via 2 different implementations, so it's a bug and will be fixed in a new build, so that only New Reader implementation is used via both routes.
Interestingly, our Reader performs much better and has much less artifacts on the PDF you've linked during highlighting.
But there are still places where it's not highlighting an entire word, but this is because I think the PDF itself is broken. I think this way, because if you were to try just selecting text on Google Chrome's default PDF reader you will see that it also not able to select all the text and excludes random parts.

You mention you have lots of PDFs that have issues like that, so can you please:
    1. Open the PDF in some 3rd party PDF viewer like Adobe or Chrome's and first confirm, by selecting text, that it doesn't have artifacts.
    2. Open that PDF in Zotero Android App _via the Items List page_(to use New Reader) and see if artifcats appear there during text selection and highlighting?
    3. Share those PDFs with me via similar way as you did before.

Everything I mentioned earlier is only relevant for Android build 1.0.0-289 and higher, which currently only exist in Beta. So please also double check your app's version.
