Zotero 9 Android sync error

    What's the problem exactly?

See Changes Not Syncing or Files Not Syncing depending on whether the issue is with library data or files.
  • I'm having a sync issue with the Zotero Android app.

    My setup:
    - Desktop: Zotero 9.0.6 on macOS
    - Android app: version 1.0.0-255
    - File sync: WebDAV

    The problem:
    - On my Mac, Zotero shows that sync is complete (green checkmark).
    - On the Android app, after syncing, **my library shows 0 items**.
    - I can confirm that my PDF attachments have been uploaded to the WebDAV server (I can see the .zip files there).
    - However, the **library metadata (titles, authors, etc.) does not appear** on Android at all.
    - I have already tried: clearing app data, resetting sync history, logging out and back in, and force syncing by pulling down the items list. None of these worked.

    Additional info:
    - I do not see any error message at the bottom of the screen when syncing — the sync just seems to do nothing.
    - My WebDAV server verification passes (green checkmark).
    - I am using the same Zotero account on both devices.

WebDAV isn't relevant if this is about library data.

Do you not see collections in the Android app either? Can you share a screenshot of that?

Can you provide a Debug ID from Android for the first sync after you make a change to an item online? Start debug output logging, make the change online, and then pull down on the items list in the Android app to force a sync, and then submit the output.

That's doesn't capture a full sync operation — just the start of the very first request. Can you do that again — including the remote change — and wait a bit longer?

Please stop posting screenshots of error logs. We only ever want the ID.

@annosoo: How long have you actually waited without doing anything? There's definitely some problem here for large libraries with a huge number of previously opened items, but it's possible it would resolve itself if you gave it time.
  • @dstillman

I have waited more than 24 hours without doing anything — no sync attempts, no app restarts, nothing. After that, my library still shows 0 items.
  • @dstillman

    Just a gentle follow-up on this — I know you're busy.

It's been a couple of days, and I still have 0 items on Android after waiting 24+ hours with no action, as I mentioned earlier.

I'm happy to generate a fresh Debug ID if that would help. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do on my end, or if there's any known workaround (e.g., a development build) I could try.

Thank you for your time — I really appreciate it.

I installed version 1.0.0-263 from the beta channel, and the issue is now resolved — all my items show up on Android and sync works perfectly.

Thank you so much for your help and for pointing me to the beta build. I really appreciate your time and effort on this!

    Best regards,
    annosoo
  • OK, great. If you don't want to stay on the beta, you'll probably want to stay on that until the next production release (which will be 263 or higher), and then you should be able to switch back to the production version without wiping your database.
  • Got it, thank you for the heads-up! I'll stay on the beta for now and switch back to the production version once it's released (with version 263 or higher).

Really appreciate all your help on this — glad to have it working again!
