ORCID workflow with Zotero

Hi all,
As far as I understand, there is no way to connect Zotero to ORCID (via the Zotero Connector), nor to follow some ORCID profiles via RSS (the https://github.com/ORCID-EU-Labs/orcid-feed project seems to be dead).
There is an ORCID API, but it is intended for organizations, and it requires the ability to manage APIs.

**What I need**:
As a Research Center Coordinator, following our university's policies, we have asked our 80+ members to create and maintain their ORCID profile, which will henceforth be the place for our admins to check new publications, funding, and so on.
We need to keep our reports up to date. Our first idea was to use the Zotero Connector and our Zotero group library to keep everything updated. Not possible.
RSS feeds, at least…? Nope.
So it seems that ORCID may be "open," but remains a one-way data collection system (except through the API): there is no easy way to follow profile activity and update our Zotero group library accordingly.

= Am I wrong? Has anyone managed to build a workflow from ORCID to Zotero?

Zotero Forum Discussions I looked at on this topic:

  • This is a neat idea. I help to manage this information for my department and the reality is that people simply don’t keep their profiles up-to-date, so you’ll need to have a way to make additions. What you need is a current research information system (CRIS), which if used properly can also be used to keep public websites updated, and some also synchronize with ORCID. Unfortunately many universities choose proprietary systems such as Symplectic Elements and then don’t even use them properly!
  • Have you looked at OpenAlex? They have invested quite a bit in data quality and do grab ORCIDs -- I checked, and my profile looked pretty complete (and both their API and the Web interface are quite powerful and allow Zotero import)
