Unable to login to ONLY Zotero app (error invalid username/password), browser login works fine

Dear members,

I am suddenly encountering a problem today logging in to the Zotero app - I have been able to log in every day, the same way.

I troubleshooted by logging in to Zotero browser with the same details - it works absolutely fine.

I am lost, I do not know what to do next given that both my username and my password are correct. If anybody can help with advice on how to proceed, I would be grateful.

    I don't think the username in the app should be the email address. (not 100% sure, but I don't want to try on my machine)

    Either is fine. @RisingPh0enix, you may have just gotten temporarily blocked due to too many incorrect attempts. Try again now.
  • I've also encountered the same problem. I can log in on the web but not on the Mac Zotero app to set up syncing. Using bth username and email to log in to no avail. Wondering if I've also been blocked due to too many incorrect attempts

    @MPlawiuk: You haven't been blocked, but you have multiple failures for your email address and username. That just means you're using the wrong password. You can reset your password if you're having trouble.

    having the exact same issue! I can use zotero on my other (first) PC, app and browser, completely fine. I am trying to sign in on my new PC but it won't let me in due to the same error. I am logged in on the browser on my new pc.

    Edit: I have only had this issue on the app of the new one which is a work laptop. I tried days after days of gaps between attempts but it's the same issue since the beginning.
  • @metehanciftci -- which version of Zotero on that computer? Sounds like you're on an old version which is no longer supported for sync (since Zotero 9 logs you in via browser)
  • Oh I see, I am afraid dept admins have installed v 7.x which is now outdated. I will contact them to update, thank you!
