Initial start up

There's a plugin that's causing a delay when Zotero starts up for the first time (about 25–30 seconds). I need to figure out which plugin it is, but it's difficult because I have to shut down the computer so that Zotero starts up as if it were the first time.

I know that Zotero scans the database the first time it starts up... but how can I force it to start up as if it were the first time, so I can identify the plugin causing the delay?

I'm not sure what you mean by "the first time"? You can quit Zotero completely and start it up for a fresh start. You don't need to restart your computer.
  • Thank you for your answer. It will be better to explain the problem, and maybe you can help me. Right now, I’m not sure if it is a plugin or Zotero. The problem I am seeing is that if I launch Zotero (with all plugins enabled) when I turn on my computer, the program takes about 34 seconds to display the entire library.

If, at that moment, I close the program and restart it a few seconds later, there is no delay (with all plugins enabled). This also happens if I disable all plugins and then enable them one by one while restarting the program, as you indicated.

Then I decided to restart the PC, and launched the program “from scratch,” and after 30–34 seconds, I get Report ID: 667143271. Then, when I restart Zotero (there is no delay to disply the Library), I get this other Report ID: 556024834.

In the first Report ID ("fresh" start), I thought there might be an issue with the last item I added, but I didn’t notice anything unusual—other than the "Pages" field being missing, and I filled it.

    Any idea?
  • Things are getting worse. Yesterday I added some articles, synced, and shut down. This morning, Zotero’s startup was even worse—all the panes were blank while Zotero was loading, which took a while.

Today, the Report ID (672602762) is mentioning the key of the last item I added yesterday, and the strange thing is that I don’t see any folder with that key. I don’t think it’s a program issue because I don’t see any other similar reports. I can only think it’s a problem with the institutional antivirus or some conflict with Attanger. Could you please review the report and tell me the source of the error?

    Thank you so much!

If you can reproduce the problem in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup in Troubleshooting Mode, using the Help → Debug Output Logging → "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option.

If you can't, it'd be a problem with a plugin, and you'll need to debug this yourself.

Are you saying that shows a problem? If so, what?
  • No, this is the Debug ID, as you asked.

As I mentioned before I only see the delay when Zotero is launched after PC is restarted (even with all plugins manually disabled). That is what I call a "fresh startup".

I'm asking for a Debug ID that shows the problem in Troubleshooting Mode (or with all plugins manually disabled). One that doesn't isn't useful.

See Reporting Startup Errors for generating Debug ID from a fresh startup. You'd first have to manually disable all plugins or add -safe-mode to the command line.

But now it started with no appreciable delay.

I will continue to check it within the following days, and let you know if the problem comes up again. Thank you!
