Error updating your document

I am attempting to work with a templated form that was sent to me, which previously contained Zotero references. I quickly noticed the following error:

```
Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?
```

I went through all of the troubleshooting steps, including eventually deleting all the citations and attempting to add new citations. I am able to add one citation, but after attempting to add the second citation, it gives me the above error.

I am using Fedora Workstation 43 and Libreoffice version 25.8.2.2.

  • You should follow the final step of the troubleshooting instructions and send support@zotero.org a snippet document that can reproduce the issue and we can take a look.
  • The file you sent us is saved as a .docx. Citing doesn't work in .docx files on LibreOffice, unless you use Bookmarks, but they will be prone to corruption, or may not work at all in tables.

    Thanks for your comment, however I already tried using bookmarks, and saving it as an odt and not using bookmarks. The same issue occurs regardless.
  • If you're citing in the tables in the document that you've sent, it is not likely to work correctly or at all, due to the limitations of LibreOffice.
  • Oh ok. Is there any workaround?
  • Citing in tables should work in Google Docs, but you should not use it if this document is going to be 100 pages or longer. You can also use plaintext citations by copying them in Zotero and pasting in LibreOffice, but you won't get the benefit of Zotero managing the citations in your document automatically.
