【Bug report】 Add pdf annotations to notes, typing Chinese before them will break hyperlinks

Typed text is automatically retyped once and then replaces the quotes of the annotations exported form pdf into note

  • 1) Does it remove the quote if you paste the same text instead of typing?
    2) Does it remove the quote if you add a space before it?
    3) Do you see this behavior only before the first quote or also before other characters anywhere in the note?
    4) Does Zotero 7 beta fix that?
  • @martynas_b
    1) No
    2) No,only chinese, English letters, numbers, spaces and other English characters do not cause problems.
    3)Yes,only before the first quote
    4)I don't know, I don't use that version

  • I'm curious to see if other users can also reproduce this issue.

What is that input popup? Is that a standard way to enter Chinese characters? Are there other ways to enter the characters?
  • I can reproduce:
    Debug ID: D2037637861
    Zotero 7.0.0-beta.65+b047f3d90 (64-bit)
    Windows 10

I am using the standard simplified Chinese input (Microsoft Pinyin).
I just type the Latin letters of the pinyin, and the popup suggests the best characters to choose based on the letters typed. You need that popup, because a certain combination of letters in the pinyin can correspond to multiple combinations of characters. Then press "Space" to select the first suggestion, or the numbers for other options.

In the screenshot above, I have typed "ceshi", which is the pinyin for "测试".
The letters in the text seem to accumulate: they appear in sequence at each press of a new letter: "c", "cce", "ccece's", "ccece'sce'sh", "ccece'sce'shce'shi". The apostrophe ' appears when it detects the separation between characters.

If I press "Space" after the screenshot, I get:

The Chinese characters should have replaced the pinyin instead of keeping both the pinyin and the Chinese characters.
