Zotero 7:

1. Open zotero
2. Open Libre-Office (LO)
3. Click Add/Edit Citation
4. Citation Style choice window pops up (choose)
5. System dialog: 'Zotero "Add/Edit Citation" is ready'
6. Classic add citation dialog doesn't pop up above LO window

System Specs:

OS Name: Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
OS Type: 64-bit
GNOME Version: 42.5
Widowing System: Wayland
  • Same with zotero 7.0.0-beta.5, either with the classic dialog or the default dialog
  • No window opens with 7.0.0-beta.7. (but an error message pops up if Zotero is not running)
  • Yup, just wanted to report the same problem (Kubuntu 23.04, Plasma 5.27.4.) - the beta is running but nothing happens when clicking any Zotero icon in the LO toolbar.
  • Our window-moving code hasn't yet been updated for Wayland, so window focusing won't work yet under Wayland.
    No window opens with 7.0.0-beta.7
That's actually just unrelated breakage. Fixed in the latest beta — thanks.

    Works again. Thank you.
[...] so window focusing won't work yet under Wayland
    I understand.
  • To give an update here, I looked into this and generally the
System dialog: 'Zotero "Add/Edit Citation" is ready'
prompt is a Gnome "feature". The version of Firefox that Zotero 6 is based on was opening windows the "wrong" way which is why the prompt didn't appear. There doesn't seem to be a simple way to address this using Zotero based on my research.

Not a good news. Thank you for trying to address it
  • It seems that an easy way to address the window focusing issue in Zotero 7 beta is to edit the .profile file in the home directory, add: export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 and restart the computer.

I did some tests changing the value between 0 and 1. (And restarting the computer each time.)

The issue exists with 0, it disappears with 1. HTH
