[Juris-M] Zotfile page numbers don't work with Legal Case items

Zotfile's ability to use the number in the "pages" field as the first page number for the citation in annotations extracted doesn't seem to work with Item type "Case". If I convert this into a journal article (without changing any of the field values) the pagination works correctly and it uses the input first page number to calculate the page number for the extract.

Is this a zotfile issue or a Juris-M issue, and how do I get this to work?
  • This is a ZotFile issue. I created a pull request with a fix:
    https://github.com/jlegewie/zotfile/issues/530

BTW, Zotero's beta version comes with a new PDF reader, which you might want to try:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/pdf_reader_preview

I'm not sure whether this is already available for Juris-M, though.
  • It works, thanks!

I did try the new beta (it isn't available in Juris-M yet), I guess I am not fond of the "keep your annotations on the app" and it didn't seem to have much of all the functionality I get out of using zotfile to deal with my pdf annotations :)
  • I have followed the link qqbb provided to [solution #531](https://github.com/jlegewie/zotfile/pull/531/commits/4aebd7f30ef62d06184d9f3ee2b611b959a84dee).

I am afraid, however, I am a complete novice at these things and have no idea how to "install" it to correct the problem.
  • @ipwars: I'd recommend trying the annotation functions in Zotero 6. Double-clicking "Page" in the annotation bar on the left side allows you to edit the page label.

(If you know how to work with ZIP files, it's not very difficult to modify ZotFile. Rename ZotFile's XPI file to ZIP. Search for the relevant text file and replace it with the edited version. Rename back to XPI and install it.)
  • Thank you.

I have created a new pdfAnnotations.js file with the code you provided.

I have added it into the zotfile zip file - took me a bit as I am using MacOS so it involved expanding the zip file, replacing the .js file and recompressing.

However, when I try to install the amended zotfile package (zotfile-5.1.1-fx.xpi) I get a message:

    >*Add-on Installation Failed*

    >The add-on "%S" could not be installed. It may be incompatible with this version of Zotero.

The package with the unedited pdfAnnotations.js file installs just fine.

So I am afraid I am defeated on this front.
  • Again, you should use the built-in annotation functionality in Zotero 6. ZotFile is no longer what you use for this.

If you're having a problem with page numbers with Zotero's annotation functionality, provide Steps to Reproduce and we can say more.
