Author autocomplete merges separate [surname, first name] information into surname field

When adding an existing author's name to the Author field using autocomplete, that author's surname and first name are merged into the surname field, leaving the first name field empty. It renders the feature useless because the user has to manually edit/add existing author name information to the fields. Instead, Zotero should insert that information separately into the respective fields, as the user would reasonably expect.

Although I'm currently using v6.0.3, I have experienced it in previous versions. This problem has also been described in previous threads:
- https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/8282/author-autocomplete-problem-does-not-separate-first-and-last-name

It's not clear that this is a bug, so I haven't generated a report ID.
  • (We always want a Report ID when reporting a problem. It doesn't matter if something is a bug.)

It looks like this happens if you press Tab in the auto-complete drop-down. If you just press Enter to make the selection, it will work properly.

This was fixed since the 2015 report, but it seems to have popped up again — we'll fix, but for now just press Enter. (The other thread was from 2009 and about a different issue.)
  • Thanks. I've just tried your solution of pressing Enter instead of tabbing to the next field and can confirm it works for me.

Also noted the requirement for always providing a report ID.
