iOS: Opening attachments with custom schemes

This discussion was created from comments split from: Feature requested: Link online storage with ios app.
  • On macOS, I use the "Attach link to URL…" option to link to items in my cross-platform file storage application. This application uses a custom URL scheme (instead of starting with https://, the URL begins with x-devonthink-item://).

When typed into the browser on macOS or iOS, it takes me to the desired file. And in Zotero for macOS, I can double-click the attached file to launch the application and open straight to the file. It achieves basically the same effect as entering the URL in the browser, but without the need to open the browser.

But in the iOS Zotero app, the custom URL scheme doesn't work. It drops the custom url and replaces it with the standard http:// scheme.

I've tried finding workarounds, like attaching a .url file that links to the custom URL. Again this opened properly on macOS, but it failed to launch the proper application on iOS.
  • We'll see if we can fix that.
  • @dstillman Thanks! I saw mention of this feature in the patch notes for the latest update. However I'm still getting the same error:

    > **Error**
    > Can't open url: x-devonthink-item://8519A117-B1C2-4072-BC0E-837EFE76CAFE"

Yet when I copy that exact same address and paste it in Safari on my iPad, it successfully opens DEVONthink to the proper document after displaying a popup that read:
