Why always Zotero is opening the installation plugins and start page?

After a re installation of Libreoffice Plugin in Ubuntu 18.04, Zotero is weird at start. This is opening several windows at once.
- The usual Zotero GUI
- Zotero LibreOffice Plugin Installation
- Wellcome Better BibText for Zotero (configuration of BBT)
- Default browser with https://www.zotero.org/start and ZotFile web page

When I ran the installation GUIs doesn't happens anything. But Zotero is working normally. If I close restart zotero the same aplications start again. Each time I have to close these windows by running or cancelling but some times is a bit annoying. Any one now what can I do?

This ia a picture of all windows opened https://mega.nz/file/zdg0gKpY#fL8nsi1fwXX1Rw_ShZij5tS7p2KLoezdPxRaKjvdHWo

  • How did you install Zotero? Are you sure the user under which you run Zotero has permissions to write in the Zotero profile folder?
  • I used this repo `ppa:smathot/cogscinl` to install zotero-standalone by using apt. Yes, my user have permissions to Zotero profile folder.
  • One way or another, this would happen if Zotero can't write to prefs.js in the profile folder. You'll have to figure out why that would be the case on your system.

(This can also happen if you're starting Zotero from the command line and then pressing Ctrl-C to quit it instead of closing from the window, but I assume that's not the case for you.)
  • @gavg712: That repository is no longer maintained. You could install Zotero from Emiliano's deb packages instead: https://askubuntu.com/a/1160369. See here for details.
  • Thanks everybody,

I did a clean installation from @qqbb reference, because I finally went frustrated. My local database was fully restored in the new installation and the plugins are working again.

Thanks you all for take a time to answer!
  • Thanks for the comments @dstillman . I finally found why this was happenning, the prefs.js file was owned by root.
  • That means zotero was run as root the first time.
