  • Sorry, I don't understand what you want. Please show the expected output for this specific reference.

    Have a look here:
Zotero > Edit > Preferences > Cite > "Include URLS of paper articles in references"
    and make sure it's checked.
    https://www.zotero.org/support/preferences/cite see this.
  • it is checked.
  • it shows:

Liang X, Yang Y, Huang Z, Zhou J, Li Y, Zhong X. Panax notoginseng saponins mitigate cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity by inducing mitophagy via HIF-1α. Oncotarget. 2017 Nov 28;8(61):102989–3003.

and i want it to be:

Liang X, Yang Y, Huang Z, Zhou J, Li Y, Zhong X. Panax notoginseng saponins mitigate cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity by inducing mitophagy via HIF-1α. Oncotarget [Internet]. 2017 Nov 28;8(61):102989–3003. Available from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29262539

even better if i could lose "[internet]" and "Available from".

    is this understandable?

Which citation style exactly are you using?
I assume these fields are also populated within the Zotero item?
  • yes. i use Vancouver.
in the second example i added the URL manually in the designated field.
i want it to be automatic
  • Use the doi. Pubmed is not the primary source
    https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jgr.2016.03.008
  • Are you sure that the URL field should house the Pubmed link. Indeed, the article you cite is not "available from" Pubmed. It is available from Oncotarget's webpage. I know no juornal reference styles that quote Pubmed as a web-based URL/source. You should cite the DOI or the Oncotarget's webpage instead.

However, you may indeed need to include Pubmed or Pubmed Central ID in the reference. Then, you can use a style like the "National Library of Medicine (grant proposals with PMCID/PMID)" style. You would get this:

Liang X, Yang Y, Huang Z, Zhou J, Li Y, Zhong X. Panax notoginseng saponins mitigate cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity by inducing mitophagy via HIF-1α. Oncotarget. 2017 Nov 28;8(61):102989–103003. PMCID: PMC5732705

For the [internet] tag: I thought that showed only when the citation lacks volume/page numbers. But your reference has those. There has been a discussion of it on the Forums before, and it can get to be annoying. Can't locate it at the moment.
  • @enozkan Many styles are currently written to include the [Internet] label and the URL if one is supplied, regardless of the presence of page numbers. It's a long term goal of CSL to change that, but it's a fairly involved process to change all of the styles to add this logic. Specific styles could be prioritized and changed as users request them.
  • Thanks @bwiernik for the explanation on "[Internet]". We need to know the OP's style then.
  • thanks. i've tried the "National Library of Medicine (grant proposals with PMCID/PMID)" , its ok but i need a valid web link.
the style Chicago gives that option:
Liang, Xueyan, Yufang Yang, Zhenguang Huang, Jinling Zhou, Yue’e Li, and Xiaobin Zhong. “Panax Notoginseng Saponins Mitigate Cisplatin Induced Nephrotoxicity by Inducing Mitophagy via HIF-1α.” Oncotarget 8, no. 61 (November 28, 2017): 102989–3. https://doi.org/10.18632/oncotarget.19900.

but then you get full names: "LIang, Xueyan" instead of "Liang X"

is thare a way to combine them?
  • @pinchuk What specific style do you actually need? What journal are you submitting to? Do you have a style guide you can link to?
  • hey bwiernik.
i dont need a specicic style. just a short one that will display urls
  • ok. thanks guys!
  • Has this been resolved? I am trying APA format but the URL's do not show up even after checking the box to include URL
  • There was never actually a problem here. APA will show URLs for items if provided, the preference box is checked, and the items have no DOI.

Make the box is actually checked and that the item has a DOI or URL entered. Then click Refresh in your Word document. Also try to insert the citation in a new empty document.
