Zotero standalone unable to update, need permission
I'm on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.
I'm getting repeated notifications about needing to update Zotero standalone (I'm using 4.0.20) but when I click update it says it is unable to update, due to my not having permission. How did I lose that permission and what do I do to get it back?

This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Before commenting here, you should strongly consider starting a new discussion instead. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
But there may also be something else happening and someone else will need to help with that.
@Larisa: 4.0.20 is 2.5 years old, so this isn't a new problem. Your best bet is to just delete Zotero from /Applications and reinstall it from the download page. Your existing data won't be affected.
"A recommended update is available but you do not have permission to install it. To update automatically, modify the Zotero program directory to be writeable by your user account."
I'll try deleting and reinstalling (scary!), but I hope that it will be automatic in the future?
I'd do the delete and re-install and see if the problem persists for future updates. If this is a one time thing, this is much faster than diagnosing permission issues in your applications directory. If this keeps being an issue, we can take a closer look.
