Zotero bibliography tool won't add to documents!

I have been very pleased with Zotero until now!
Since updating to windows 10 (with latest version of firefox)from windows 7 (using Standalone version) I have been unable to use the bibliography tool - I cannot add citations either to word documents which is my primary use for Zotero. I am able to add new journal articles to my collection for example, but cannot use individual articles to cite as in the old version on windows 7. I spoke to a pc engineer and he said 'it's not syncing with new version because you are no longer using a local version of zotero but it is cloud based now - go find specialist help'.
I would appreciate advice on what to do.
Thank you.

Are you using Standalone or the Firefox extension in Windows 10? You should make sure you have the Word plugin installed https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation
  • Thank you for the response. I followed the link and installed plugin for firefox (not standalone) and no result as yet....

    This is my procedure:
click on article in my library, then go to 'create bibliography from item' - then select Harvard, Bibliography, HTML, and a box comes up to advise me to save in my docs as 'untitled doc'. So I still cannot use the bibliography tool as on windows 7.It does not transfer.

If this carries on I may have to switch to another system.

If you know of any other way - or am I just missing the trick?

Okay, so you should now have a plugin toolbar in Word, which allows you to add citations as explained here https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_usage
  • Thank you, this has been very helpful.
