Zotero standalone not opeing at all (Report ID: 672856980)

Report ID: 672856980
[JavaScript Error: "getTranslators: detection is already running" {file: "chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/zotero/translation/translate.js" line: 1023}]

after a pop-up which indicated there was an error(it said the note was too long to store), I just shut down all of the programs. But after that, I could not open zotero standalone at all. so I removed the zotero from program panel and re downloaded the program and ran it. But still it did not open.
lastly, I checked the chrome extension and found the error message with ID
How can I solve this problem?

Restart your computer and try again.
  • Thank you for the advice. but I've already tried restarting the computer. Is there other method I can try?

You'll have to be more specific with what you mean by "not opening at all". What happens, exactly?
  • What I meant was even if I double-click the Zotero stanalone icon on my desktop, the program won't start at all. It just keeps showing pop-up which said "there was an error while starting the program" hope this describes the situation.
  • dstillman Zotero Team
OK, that's what we need to know. (Be sure to always provide exact messages that you see on screen when reporting software issues.)

    See Reporting Startup Errors.
  • I have already tried this part too. on the text box I added "-jsconsole" like below
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero Standalone\zotero.exe jsconsole"
but, the same pop-up came up with the message "there was an error while starting the program"
  • dstillman Zotero Team
That's not meant to fix anything — it's for reporting, as it says. A separate window should pop up with some messages in it.

If you can't get that to work, you can also try generating debug output.
  • dstillman Zotero Team
But, wait — in your example you left off the hyphen before -jsconsole.

Thank you! you were right. I missed the "hyphen" Below are the messages I got.

so. this should satisfy the reporting startup errors protocol

OK, that last one is the issue. NS_ERROR_STORAGE_IOERR usually happens when the Zotero data directory is on a network drive or in a server-mirrored home directory. If that's the case, you should point Zotero to a folder on a regular part of your local hard drive from the Advanced → Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences and then move your existing data directory files there.
  • Thank you for the detailed instruction! but how I'm going to access to zotero preferences pane since I can not open the zotero standalone at all? Is it possible to access through zotero webpage?
  • dstillman Zotero Team
Oh, sorry. Try opening the Zotero profile directory, deleting prefs.js, and restarting Zotero. That will reset the preferences, including the data directory preference, which might at least let you open Zotero.
  • Thank you very much! now I'm able to open the Zotero program again, but is it possible to retrieve previous data (pdf files, notes) in the USB (where I used as a data directory)?
  • of course. Treat the data on the USB stick as if it were a back-up then follow the instructions here: https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#restoring_your_zotero_library_from_a_backup (the 2nd option, probably). Make sure to keep the original copy on the stick in case something doesn't work correctly.
  • Thank you Adam. but when I try to copy zotero.sqlite file from usb to active data directory there was an error. it said "error 0x80080570" What should I do?
  • You get that error when copying the file? That's really bizarre -- can you copy it somewhere else?
  • no. I can't copy it to the other place either. the same error message poped up. is it because the file is damaged?
  • Oh I solved the problem by the disk check!!
Thank you very much for all of your help. I guess I should not use external device to store data directory..
