Citations sorted in time sequence

It would be valuable if Zotero could sort the citations from an article in the order they were entered as an option. This would enable a rapid creation of an excerpt containing the important points. I think time-based sorting should be default.
  • Are you talking about sorting the citations in a bibliography to a document, or about sorting in your Zotero library? If the latter, there is a 'Date Added' column available in the middle pane - right click the small button right next to the column headers to select it for display. You can then sort by Date Added.
  • It would be great if one could choose whether references in the text should be ordered chronologically by time (Taylor 1999; Smith 2009) or alphabetically by last name (Smith 2009; Taylor 1999) independent of the sequence in which they were chosen in the inserting interface.
  • Ah, you mean the sorting inside 'multiple sources' citations. This has been raised several times (1, 2, 3, 4). The latter topic indicates that the way of sorting is actually dependent on the style you select - as the desired sorting behaviour is often specified by style guides. So your style should do this for you.

The main open issue with multiple sources, I gather, is that it is still not straightforward to rearrange the items once you've added them (as historians might want to do). There is an open ticket for that.
