Zotero and Retina Display

On my new Macbook with Retina Display, Zotero looks quite bad. Screenshot:

Adding the key "NSHighResolutionCapable" to the Info.plist with value YES allows text to be rendered at high resolution, though icons are still lo-res:

I suggest adding this key as a first step, then evaluating whether and how to support high resolution graphics.
  • We've fixed the text for the next release of Standalone. Thanks.

For the icons, famfamfam icons (at 16x16) aren't going to be very helpful here, so we'll have to think about what to do going forward. Fortunately they're small enough that—I'm guessing—they probably don't look too awful in the interim.
  • (Simon points out that the toolbar buttons themselves are actually graphics, so those might actually look somewhat bad.)
  • There are a bunch of open source icon sets that have both 16x16 and 32x32 sizes, but I'm not sure if any of them can easily replace famfamfam/fugue. See e.g. http://www.iconfinder.com/icondetails/23273/32/find_magnifying_glass_search_zoom_icon
  • There is an excellent (unfortunately seems to be idle now) Firefox add-on, Text Formatting Toolbar, for which the developer, Michael B. improved the famfamfam, added a couple of new icons and named the new set as 'Pastel SVG Icons'; licensing all under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported. Doing this, he converted famfamfam to larger resolutions, up to 256, with little modifications (they are almost identical). You can find the Pastel SVG icons here. I thought this may help, if zotero dev intends to continue with the famfamfam for the sake of ui familiarity. I also think that some of the additional icons in the pastel set conforms much better to the general famfamfam style than the otherwise excellent fugue icons - or maybe make zotero all fugue, both of which approaches would provide a consistent ui.
  • Hi,
I tried to add the key "NSHighResolutionCapable" to list file. But unfortunately, it does not work. Could you upload a useful info.plist???
  • Hi everyone,

This method works for 3.0.8.1 which is the newest version at the moment. My previous test is on 3.0.8 but failed.

    Hope this information help.
  • Where is the Info.plist file? I am unable to find it.

    -thanks.
  • I've found it now -- it's in the "contents" folder. You can use essential the same procedure on Zotero as recommended here for MS Word: http://www.cultofmac.com/182025/use-this-quick-trick-to-force-microsoft-word-to-use-retina-display/
