Wikipedia: DOI in Chrome; COinS in Firefox?

Shouldn't zotero use the same translator for a given wikipedia article without regard to the browser?

If so, then here's a case where zotero wants to use DOI translator with Chrome and COinS translator for the same article in Firefox.

article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Coca-Cola

permlink:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Criticism_of_Coca-Cola&oldid=475863863

Chrome:
16.0.912.77 m

Firefox:
10.0.1

  • This happens because translators aren't currently sorted the same way in both browsers, and the DOI and COinS translators have the same priority. I will reconcile the translator sorting.
  • Sounds great!
I don't know much about this, but it's clear that the COinS translator recognized more references from the Coca-Cola article.

I'm sure that's not always the case, so is there someway to set priority based on the number of sources found rather than a hard-coded priority list?

Are there any other translators that apply to a wikipedia page?

and does Zotero work with any instance of MediaWiki or is it limited to Wikipedia?

"and does Zotero work with any instance of MediaWiki or is it limited to Wikipedia?"

COinS are present in Wikipedia because of a widely-used series of templates that generate them. Other wikis that import them (but not many can) will have such coins.

You're pretty safe assuming you'll always catch more with the COinS than only DOIs, if only because you're a lot more likely to encounter a bunch of COinS reference on a page than a bunch of DOIs with no COinS-generating refer5ences on the page. (and if you encounter a bunch of unformated references, likely there won't be DOIs in there anyway)
