Drag&Drop from Group to own library results in PDF "file not found" error

I love Zotero and have been using it for years, but only now get to explore the collaboration functionalities and encountered a problem:

I use Zotero file storage (6 GB) and "host" group libraries for my reasearch group on that, e.g. results of a literature survey including the associated PDFs. If I double-click the entry in the group library, the PDF downloads and then opens just fine.

If I find that something is relevant for a project, I'd like to drag&drop it in the corresponding collection in my personal library. If I do that, the entry is created fine, including an entry for the PDF, but double-clicking that results in a "file not found" error.

How can I solve that?

Some more background:
Zotero 5.0.96.2 on Mac
Zotfile and BetterBibtex plugins installed
Symlink of the local storage folder (not database) to a folder on iCloud-Drive for easy access/annotation of PDFs via iPad on the go (until the iOS-app comes out of Beta).

Debug-ID: D1728792464

Thanks a lot!
  • Currently, the file has to be accessible locally in the source library before you drag it. If you're using "as needed" file sync mode, that means opening it once first. After you do that, you should be able to drag it to other libraries.

Note that you'll need to delete the item you already dragged and delete it from the trash before dragging again. (This too will be improved in a future version.)
  • Thanks for the info!

I originally already tried deleting it and readding it, but delete from trash was also necessary.

Good to hear that this will be improved in a future version.

I'll simply activate the download all attachments in shared libraries setting. That should do the trick, if I understand correctly.

Thanks again, I appreciate the good support!
