MS Word 2021 giving wrong word count

Hello hopefully somebody can help, I have the newest version of word running on the Mac and the most updated version of Zotero, the problem is it is inflating my word count in my document, this just started happening does anybody have an idea what's going on?

I saw some older posts suggesting that the users update Word, this is not the case here it is the newest version?

Obviously, when I unlink Zotero the word coun is correct, Is this my only option to make different versions of the document all the time?

I'm not seeing this on Windows, but don't have a Word for Mac copy here to test. Is the Word Count under Review --> Word Count different?

Hi, it's under Tools. This just started happening a couple of days ago, I have to now copy the document and paste it into a new .word and then unlink Zotero to get a word count.

Is this an MS word issue and nothing to do with Zotero?
