Hi:
Is there a "back button" to go back to the collection or sub-collection I just came from? Perhaps it is not possible or it already exists and I just do not know about it.

No that’s not currently possible.

There used to be a plugin that offered this, but at some point it died. It's a feature I'd very much like to see come to core Zotero one day.
