What's the relative advantage/disadvantage of copied vs. linked files?
I'm new to Zotero, and it seems to be the case that when I import a file, I can either copy it to Zotero or link it back to its original location. My system up until now has been to store pdfs in folders in my computer's file system, and the documentation was unclear about what these different ways of importing actually does for me.
Thank you!
Thank you!
This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Before commenting here, you should strongly consider starting a new discussion instead. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
But I don't really know what you're looking for. That section explains the differences. It's your computer, and how you want to organize things is up to you. We obviously choose the default behavior for a reason, so if nothing in that section is compelling in support of linked files, you should just use the default stored files.
If you have further questions, you'd have to be more specific.

Sorry @dstillman, I assumed it would be clear that I was talking about the documentation you linked, I should have linked so that would been clear to anyone trying to help.
