scannable cite not showing up?

- latest Zotero 5.055; Java v.8 update 181 (previous Java uninstalled);
- LibreOffice 6.1.0.3 (x64);
- LibreOffice Extension Manager Zotero LibreOffice Integration 5.0.14 - - Warning message = Could not create Java implementation loader - - ;
- Scrivener 1.9.8.0;
- Windows10 x64,
> multiple uninstalls, re-installs, rebooting...
a tad annoying...anyone got any ideas?
  • Note that you have to install the ODF scan add-on for Scannable Cite to appear. If it doesn't after installing, see the manual install instructions in the main ODF scan support thread.
  • thanks, yes that was installed

  • Following manual setup from:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#zotero_toolbar_doesn_t_appear
    [Is this the right page?]
    your instructions:
    3. In the Cite pane of Zotero preferences, open the “Word Processors” tab.
    4. Click “Reinstall LibreOffice/Microsoft Word Add-in” and then restart your word processor.

    [DONE]

    still, ERROR- - "Installation could not be completed because an error occurred. Please ensure that LibreOffice is closed, and then restart Zotero".

    [OfficeLibre was not open, so I closed the browser in case the browser extension was intefering]

    then tried manual installation by double-clicking the file in its location on the hard drive via explorer
    [C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero\extensions\zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration@zotero.org\install]

    > so OfficeLibre opens BUT

    LibreOffice says >ERROR - - Could not create Java implementation loader.

    The Extension Manager for LibreOffice says> "ERROR: The status of this extension is unknown"
  • I'm a bit unclear on what you're trying to do.
    Scannable Cite is part of the ODF Scan add-on. It is not part of regular Zotero. The manual install instructions are e.g. here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/280155/#Comment_280155

    The LibreOffice add-on _is_ part of Zotero. Troubleshooting for that would be entirely separate and you'd want to start here: https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#could_not_create_java_implementation_loader
  • all I'm trying to do is be able to cite/ reference in Scrivener (LibreOffice was only installed as it was part of the instructions to add in the ODF scan add-on).

    That's all. Scrivener functionality only.
  • OK, you'll need to fix both of these things then. Manually instally the scannable cite translator and fix Java in LibreOffice
  • thanks, do you have a step-by-step for both those operations?
  • ok, see them above, thanks again
  • [the problem seems to be here:]
    Make sure that Java is installed and enabled in LibreOffice. Choose Tools → Options → LibreOffice → Java (or Advanced). Ensure that “Use a Java runtime environment” is checked, and that a JRE appears in the list below. (It may take a few seconds to load.)

    [its checked, but a JRE is not listed, just blank ], any suggestions, thanks
  • We can only do limited troubleshooting for what is a LibreOffice add-on, but I'd start by installing Java from https://java.com
  • ok, LibreOffice java has been sorted out, reinstalled Zotero, but still no scannable cite. Tried manual install of odf scan add on. No success. Maybe I'm doing the manual thing wrong. Do you have a bteer step-by-step, that file may be outdated in your link? ( you said: The LibreOffice add-on _is_ part of Zotero. Troubleshooting for that would be entirely separate and you'd want to start here: https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#could_not_create_java_implementation_loader)
  • if I try install zotero 4 it refuses because of current preference. Should I delete prefs as well and try zotero 4? real headache now
  • Report id 174227618, although the java issue has been resolved
  • ok, I got there, if anyone else has this problem I eventually just opened the contents of the latest .xpi file in notepad, then saved to .js and placed that file into the translators folder in the Users directory of Zotero.
